Alright! The mirror mounts have been designed in CAD.

[image: th_Solid4.jpg] [image: th_Solid3.jpg]

Big thanks to Tim (cassandtim) for helping me get the design into CAD. I own you some beer.gif .

The next step is to get quotes from CNC shops. Once I find a shop that will make these at a reasonable price in a reasonable amount of time, we'll be in business.

One other item of discussion: mirrors. I was thinking that I could buy the GSXR mirrors in bulk and just put these mirrors together with the mount. This would save you guys the hassle of taking the GSXR mirrors apart, plus I could probably get a good price on the mirrors if I buy them all together.

Let me know what you guys think. If there's interest, I'll contact Emgo and find out what kind of discount I can get for a bulk order of mirrors.

Also, 5th genners, don't worry. I will also be making mounts for you guys too. Now that the design is in CAD, it won't take much to modify the design to fit your bikes.

I'll post updates in this thread as I get quotes and prices start becoming final. fing02.gif

Pretty sure all the GXSR mirrors with built-in turn signals are the same.

Don't think there's going to be much in the way of color choices. They're either going to be anodized black or powder-coated black.

Look for a thermo plastic shop for the machine work. Those guys tend to have lots of machines that sit idle as they aren't in the true machining business. I'd offer you a lead on one, but I need to get all my metal out by end of the quarter and they are backed up!
#10
Ravi, please do post details. If Ravi's idea doesn't work out.
Count me in Darth for a pair of both mirrors and bases LOL since I don't even have a pair of the mirrors yet...also been trolling Ebay. I'm sure every one would much rather deal with you Darth then Thurn "who is a couple thousand miles away and shipping alone would cost allot" to make sure they are done the way we would like them. Please Darth make extenders available or in the base as one.
#11
I thought the integrated light/mirror combo only came off the 06/07 GSXR 750/1000's? Mine was from a 1000 that had been used a whole 350 miles and then swapped out. I know they do not come on the 600's for sure. Keep that in mind when hunting. fing02.gif

And Ravi4l...you would have to do some "constructive destruction" to remove the base mount currently on the GSXR mirrors to make that work. Pics would definitely be needed to see the results there. Also, the mirror assembly is heavier than stock which may or may not cause you some issues later. Either way, I would love to see what you did. comp13.gif

Oh, and don't forget the local motorcycle junk yard. GSXR's are the choice of squidders world wide. rolleyes.gif

PS: I wouldn't mind some extension built into the bases either for a little extra. I have gotten used to being able to see the road and not my elbows. wink.gif

Did a quick search for GSXR 1000 mirrors and found the following:
Carbon fiber version
Black
stock right mirror
2 sets of Carbon fiber for $66
And many, many more....

Does anyone know if mirrors on any other bikes would be a easyier swap or a match for a direct fit..
I was looki9ng for gsxr mirrors n found a site that offers them for honda, yamaha, aprilla, etc.. 5 different styles for honda.
http://www.speedzilla.com/hondarrfutura.shtml (i like these) but twice the price of gsxr oem's..
these foe the rc51 may work?? but im 2000 miles from my bike right now.
http://www.speedzilla.com/rc51mirrors.shtml

here is the site with all the options

Good find marid2apterbilt, but they look to short, so in less major extenders are used they are not good enough. I know RC51 stock mirrors are way to short and I would guess the ones you found are the same size.

yes i figured so also.. in my wandering on vfrd comp13.gif ravi41 seems to have done it with gsxr mirrors and stock vfr mounts. fing02.gif (see gallary photo's) seems as if he put washers under them, i assume to tighten them into the bases???
not to step on your toes DARTH BLING but i sent the company a email that had the ones i found asking about vfr800 products.. Although it would probably be cheaper to follow with your route.. so i am still waiting..
dont count me out..

Does anyone know what new gsxr mirrors cost from the dealer.. i was looking at a micro fishe for oem parts n couldnt find them.. as my bike is only 2 months old i dont want used parts..then again i should get off my ass n call the dealer huh.. fing02.gif
#15
I too would be interested in a set for a 98 depending on the price
#16
On the cost of mirrors. I have a local dealer that is my Friend and is willing to offer me a good deal on a set and possibly some good prices to others if we show we will purchase allot of them on the after market mirrors. Darth if your interested and he has not contacted you since I mentioned you may want to get a some to make what your doing a package deal of the mirrors, base, extenders pm me and I will give you his contact #. All others if your interested hold off till he says he's willing and we get a true head count. Please Darth don't sit on this project..FYI I'm still keeping options open and going forward with other ways to be sure they will be made some time soon but would prefer dealing locally to get them like with you. LOL I just realized we can properly still use our base extenders most of us all ready have for the OEM/K2 plus VFR mirrors when the new bases are made since they may have the same foot print from the base to the fairing.

For my first attempt, I also tried to install the GSXR mirrors using the stock VFR mounts. After one look at the bike with the mirrors sticking up in the air, I said "hell no". Sorry, ravi41, but IMHO it just doesn't look good. sad.gif

thanks for the pictures ravi41.

I believe stock GSXR mirrors are $84.95 each from the dealer. Emgo brand mirrors are much cheaper.
#18
count me in too...my attempt works, but looks goofy.gif
#19
I want a pair of mounts too!
#20
[image: gallery_3873_3385_205637.jpg]
thanks for the pictures ravi41.

And to think there r other threads discussing de-dumboing.. lol..
then again i may actually be able to see over or around my shoulders..Hmm after you look at it a minute it does start to look like a insect..but the nite time profile would have people wondering what the heck is coming down the road.. wheel.gif
thanks for the stock oem price.. i saw on a site the emgo's are around 60+ each depending on black or carbon. which is what im seeing on ebay i believe for 45 a piece or 55 n up for a pair..
#21
It was a nice attempt ravi41 but I think I will agree here with Darthbling on the looks issue. Also, I want to see whats to my sides, not over my shoulder. wink.gif

And depending on Darthbling's mount, I still think putting the lobster extender between the mount and bike is a possibility. At least it will be something I attempt when the time comes. comp13.gif
#22
I know its no help to those that need them now, but the 08 cbr100rr mirrors IMHO look better and might be a direct fit.
#23
Darthbling, you can count me as a definate purchase when these mounts are ready to be done.

Just one question: do they retain the locking engagement points that the Suzuki mirror bases have? (I'll buy them either way.)

And depending on price, I might opt to do the already put together ones that include the mirrors. I have a set of mirrors already, but you are right. They are a huge PITA to remove and re-mount on different bases.
#24
well from looking over pics of the 08cbr1000 unless the base mount is the same curve of the attachement spot on the vfr .. not too sure of either a base plate or extender would be needed.

??? possible ear on mirror arm at base/swivel??
look several inches shorter ???
fing02.gif they are honda fing02.gif
liter bike mirrors on vfr800 == faster vfr unsure.gif comp13.gif 491.gif dry.gif
its a possibility?????????????????????????????????/
#25
An idea for stock mounts n oem gsxr mirrors.. Maybe Ravi will volunteer to humor us with a actual picture if he hadnt tried it already.

but considering the slight curve in the arm of the gsxr oem if u mount the laft on the right etc. that should lower n extend the mirror further out.. depending on the travel of the mirror head also..
this could also be a very feasible option with cbr mirrors or the zx10 mirrors from the site i posted earlier..

anybody willing to try it then post a pic..

Still interested... Does anyone have a picture/link to somewhere I could compare the Emgo and stock GSXR mirrors? I may try to photoshop something together to show them on my '96.

Bill, thanks for the PM. fing02.gif

wgonzalezDarth,

I'm in for a set of the mirror mounts and possibly the mirrors as well, depending on price. I have a 2000 VFR.

Thank you.

Well DARTH BLING, looks like the count so far is 15 +- i think thats a pretty good indicator that it is a sought after item... I just wish there were more mirrors available on ebay.... maybe if we work together we can bring the price down on ebay.. say a good even 30 to 32 dollar limit.. although i think demand 4 them is too high.. wouldnt be so bad if the damn squids would learn to keep there bike upright.. wheel.gif and another one bites the dust...

I'm working on trying to get a distributor or dealer to get me a deal on a bulk order of mirrors. Parts Unlimited has already shot me down. dry.gif
#33
Alright! I got a line on some mirrors. fing02.gif

I was able to find a dealer (JoeW) to get me the Emgo mirrors for a special bulk order price of $33.75 each. That's $67.50 for a pair of mirrors. Hard to beat that price. beer.gif The Emgo mirrors also come in a carbon fiber finish for extra $5 per mirror.

When the mounts are finished being machined and powdercoated, I'll order all the mirrors in one big order (to get the bulk order price). Those of you who have opted to buy your own mirrors: I can either send you instructions on how to dismantle your mirrors and install the new mounts, or you can send me your mirrors and I can put them together for you.

The other area that nobody's mentioned yet in this thread is wiring. More than likely, I'm not going to bother to try and come up with a plug-n-play solution. You'll have to tap into your wiring harness to power the mirrors. I can provide wires, taps, and all that stuff if there is interest.

Here are what the Emgo mirrors look like:

I will keep this thread update as I get more information from the CNC shops. fing02.gif

since u r creating a totally different application n presumably would be the dealer on these why not approach emgo about it.. may be aable to get dealer discount and or already dismantled n ready to be put together.

Emgo will only sell to distributors, period. They will not sell to individuals or dealers.

Now, I have no desire to become a distriubutor. It would be too much hassle and is probably not the most efficient way to go about getting these mirrors. It's possible that I could try to become a dealer, but that also seems like it would be too much work. Besides that, JoeW is giving an outstanding price for the mirrors. Retail for the mirrors is $48.50 each, so a 30% discount is huge.

Yep, that's what I'm interested in. Already have a set of mirrors and just need the mount

So what is everyone doing about the normal front blinkers?
#38
bittwiddler, Oct 10 2007, 05:03 PMSo what is everyone doing about the normal front blinkers?

Either leave them as running lights (disconnect the turn signal) or remove them all together, put some ducting in there and run more air over the wondrous design of side mounted radiators. rolleyes.gif
#39
well if memory serves, the factory lights are three wire, and the mirrors are two wire(or vice versa) anyway, on mine, I used some diodes, and i have 4 running lights and 4 turnsignals. I may be the only one that actually likes the factory turnsignals. I only added the mirrors as added lights(safety)
i am also adding an ABS panel to the tail section with brake and ts light too(in the little cutout area)

Darth all I need is the mounts and instructions for my order. From all the info I could find the Emego mirrirs are pretty much the same as OEM's. LOL the ones I have I'm pretty sure they are OEM's. Some of you may be missing some of the EBay listings. The ones I found I watched for days that had a "Buy it now option" for $30 and while I was asking the seller the condition of them no one even bid on them. Some of them may have odd listing headers so search for them like GSXR,motorcycle mirrors and other ways.

ive tried numerous ways, gsxr mirrors + integrated + 06 +07, even gsxr turn signals.they start low but i think every vfrd member is grabbing them at -+50 a pair.. thats ok i will wait. the rush will end, and i will be the victor, besides i found a place that im trying to get me a better deal on a HJC SYMAX + GLOVES + QUIK RELEASE. MAYBE I CAN GET LUCKY. trying to get it for 20 less than dealer quote.
dealer quoted me 209.00 just for the helmet...

Darth better hurry before im broke too sad.gif .. next is pants n boots.. ATGATT fing02.gif

I don't have any problems shipping overseas. Shipping will just cost more.

The price difference will be about $67.50, which is what the price is for the mirrors. Add $10 for carbon fiber.

I still don't have any quotes from any CNC shops yet. I've been in contact with a few people, but they can't give any quotes yet until we get some more details ironed out between me and them.

Well sorry was out for few days but this was the way I wanted them to look you can change to angle by tacking little bit more off the mirrors and yes you can do the same thing with 1000RR after market mirrors the reason I have mine this way because for my sitting position on VFR is different and with these mirrors I dont have to look down or turn back I see more in mirror the CBR or VFR as I said I was just trying to share info As always functionality is what I was going for if I was gona go for looks I would go with CBR mirrors
Good luck

Update:

I think I found a CNC shop to make the mounts. They have excellent prices and the quality of their work is fantastic. They can also anodize the mounts too. fing02.gif

The next step is to get the 5th gen mounts designed. Things are starting to come to together! beer.gif

I will keep this thread update as more progress is made.

Depends on what gets done first? Production for the 6th gen mounts is still a week or so away. There's just one more thing I need to get sorted out before I can start: bolts. I'll be working on it all weekend. cool.gif

I was just thinking it was going to be months waiting to get the other ones designed and the others will wait till then. All sounds good to me. Looks like we will have some bases made soon. Thank you Darth. Anyone want to post exact details on how to wire the mirrors lights in to the front marker lights? Or Darth it would be nice if you can include a how to with the bases your making...with a disclaimer of course your not responsible to any damages that may happen in case some one hacks the wires wong. Also if anyone has info on which LED's are found to work best in raplacing the bulbs in the mirrors. LOL I may have to change my avator soon to inclued lights in the mirrors.

I like the updated CAD drawings of the base. Very excited to get my set in and get those mirrors mounted. fing02.gif
