You guys know how to get 'em out of the plastic? I bungeed a duffle bag down for a trip and marred the top of the tail section a bit.... not too bad, but otherwise the bike is in super-great shape. Just kinda buggin' me! Thanks for any input, Joe

What do you mean by "rub marks?" (photos would help). If the paint is intact, some rubbing compound should be able to take it out.
If you just have rubber marks on the plastic, I have had good luck with just using a cleaner like 409. If you have scratches, personally, I think you are SOL! I have an Asphalt bike too, and had a zero mph tip over trying to put the bike on the center stand after a 10+ hour riding day, and I got a few scratches on the right bag. I tried wet sanding with 600, 800, 1000, 1500 without any luck. I then tried touch-up paint and repeated the wet sanding... still no luck. If you find a way to get them out, please post with the technique and pics if able.
Sorry bud. I'm afraid you're SOL. I took my hard bag brackets off and there are some lovely scuffs on the tail that won't come off. It was from the rubber pad under the grab handles that did it. You're seat cowl will tend to rub the finish off of your tail section also so keep an eye on that.
Yeah your outta luck. I have rub marks on the lower part of my right fairing from a backpack rubbing against it when I was trailering my VFR once. Nothing yet has helped, just learned to live with it. I actually decided to just drop my bike on the right side so the scratches takes away from the rub mark tongue.gif
You must be talking about where the flat black paint gets rubbed so that you get shiney marks on it. It must be hard to get the flat black paint finish back. I heard that some owners with the same problem were thinking of spraying their asphalt finish paint with a flat or semi-gloss clear paint to get the finish back. Sanding might do it, but you might just end up abrading/damaging the paint and end up with a worse situation. I'd try the clear flat paint approach first IIWY.
Line-X spray on bed liner. It'll stick to anything and believe it or not, it really looks good. Offers a durable finish that is easily repaired. I'm thinking about having the sides of the tank done for better grip. Or repaint the bike as before, once the clear coat gets ate up, thats it.
Wow! I guess I'll have to live with it! I was talking to my Ducatista buddy yesterday lamenting the fact that my bike will age... BUT... Ive also put 6000 miles on it since I got it in September. Can't seem to stay off it... now if only I could find a woman I like as much! I do like the idea of the bedliner if it gets screwed up (crash). Can you do that yourself? Do you have to take it some where?... not that I plan on crashing....
Errr. It all really depends on what you can deal with, on your baby. START CHEAP. Try the sharpie thing first. Hit it with a sharpie, immediatly rub lightly with a soft cloth with a drop of water on it. If that doesn't work for 'ya, go to Krylon semi gloss, cleaar. Spray some into a paint safe cup, dip the brush into, touch-up tha spot. Next step is try sanding with at LEAST 1200 wet/dry. Do it wet.
I state it that way, because each of those steps becomes more irreversable. ($10 bucks says the marker will do it).
Hell, send me your address, and I'll drop an envelope in the mail, containing a bit of flat black vinyl sheet, that you can use to cover the, "rub area", for the future.

offtopic.gif Let's do the math... if you average 40 mph, that means you have spent 150 hours riding your VFR in 3 months, about 50 hours/month, or 1.67 hours per day...every day! If you can find a woman that will let you ride her that much, just keep it to yourself, because the rest of us will be too jealous ! fing02.gif
