Now With Cool Throttle Body Pics, Disaster Averted.

So I was checking the K&N air filter on my 04. I noticed the thorottle bodies were a little dirty so decided to clean them. I used a little tooth brush and some intake cleaner, it took the carbon right off. I was spraying the can down one of the throttle bodies, holding the throttle wide open. The rubber band form the can that was holding on the little straw breaks off and fly's up in the air, right in front of my face. It went down a throttle body and came to rest ot the top of the runner on the intake plenum.

Luckily it is in sight. I have a pair of grabbers at work that I will be able to sneak down there and get it out. I have no doubt It will come right out. Some of you probably have the same tool. Long skinny, slinky thingy with a thumb trigger. There are four claws that spread out on the other end.

Anyways, just thought i'd share. That would never happen again in a million try's.

I wonder if the rubber band would go through without much ill effect, though?  Rubber bands are soft, not like getting a piece of metal or a rock in there.

I had a friend doing an engine swap here, who managed to pull some paper towels in through his intakes.  They went right out the exhaust.  Burnt confetti went flying all over the place.  The motor didn't seem to suffer any ill effects and we all just laughed.

a rubber band will go though in a SNAP  :P
a mouse when through a customers moter like it was nothing.

you actually had carbon buildup on the throttle bodies, they are coated with a dark substance thats not carbon?

How many miles on your bike?

32k miles on bike. Small ring of carbon build up right where throttle valve sits when shut. Same on all 4 holes. The tops of the throttle valves had a little carbon on the edges also. It all cleaned up real easy.

I am a honda auto tech, so I know the rubber band would go right thru. But i'm still going to remove it proper.  It's just amazing the luck sometimes.

I know somebody else has a good story.


I was working on a prelude one time and some how the porcelain of a spark plug broke as I was removing it. I tried clearing the porcelain out. 95% of it went out the exhaust. One tiny piece stuck a valve open. We tried everything to get it out. I had to pull the head and remove the tiny piece of porcelain.

Nc looks to be running conventional fuel, we have the same milege but I havent seen that buildup like that , I do run a mix of VP leaded fuel and I know its does wonders on carbon.
