What do you have on your VFR?

Currently my 5th gen, 2000 has 27k on it.

Yeah Slammer, not to change topics too much, but anything major needed to be done in those 99k miles? I know Honda says all their engines are 100k motors, and I plan on running mine until then at least, but was just wondering what I can expect...if anything.

I know back when my father rode alot of miles (about 25k a year), he always rode Yamaha Maxims in the mid 80's. He'd buy em used, and easily run them up to 100k no problem, but then something funny or major would come up and he'd buy another one. Just curious if theres anything to expect with ours. I'd love to hear some high mileage stories.

2000 with 57K.

I just rode 5,000 miles in a week after just changing the oil. I had no problems whatsoever. Man, I love my VFR.

Just turning 30,000 miles. I had the valves checked in the Fall before this tough Winter began and the valves were in spec.

I haven't had any problems with my '03 (knock on wood).

I have a whopping 9000 miles on my 96.

'00 5th gen with ~ 76,000 miles. Living where the snow flies puts a serious crimp in the riding.

My 01 has about 36,000 on it. Bought it in 04 with less than 10K on it.

I put 24,000km (15,000miles) on my 07 in 5 short months last year, planning on that and more this year, winter really sucks :pissed:

I know a local guy to me with a 5th gen that has over 220,000km (137,500 miles) on his. Like honda car engines the bikes go for ever as well

I have an 86 with 46,000 miles on it. I did have the engine rebuilt at 40,000 miles because when I purchased with 38K it was smoking and needed new rings. Magellan did a great job and now it runs like new.

Just coming up on 15k on my '04..

26,000 on my 2001, but I bought it less than 4 years ago with 2,900 on it. Also had the Superhawk at the same time, so mileage was being split for about 2 years.

07 RWB, 12,000 miles in 10 months. Lots of commuting, occasional twisties... sigh... On the up side I probably ride 300+ days a year!

Just had a major service done, 80Km or 50K miles for you lot....hasn't needed a shimm changed yet & still purrs like a kitten :thumbsup:

Think i'm still throwing a new mod at it about every 6 months, so i should have enough to last.

86k km, ~ 53k miles.

Valve vlearances checked at 36k and 72k km, no shims required. Engine is bulletproof.

Well, unfortunately i'll never know how long my motor would have lasted. My 98 is RIP at 54,000. I would have had at least 70 on it by the end of this year.
Of note, even though i did "recenter' my valves, not a single one would have been out of spec at 50000 miles.

Getting close to 19k mi. If I put as many miles on the bike this year as I did in '07, I'll have 30k on 'er by 12/31/08. Not sure I'll get that many miles in, but I'm going to try. 57440 miles on my 02. 53k in the 4 years I have had it. I work at home so it is all fun. The engine has been great, the electrical sucks. This bike has seen 5 stators. I just replaced the entire electrical system along with the wire harness recall.

I had 21K on my '04 before I sold it. I put the majority of those miles on it within my year of ownership.
I have 8,500 on the VTR, 4k of those are mine.
While I was riding a customers GL1500 I was thinking how smooth of a runner it was, then I looked down at the odometer... 165,000!!!

1986 VFR700F with 4,270 original miles on it.

2002 with 20,220 on it....20 miles a day commuting ~280 days a year....coming up on 1 year of ownership, looking at my second longest ride before I hit one year....only going from Dallas into Arkansas/TN and back, but should be fun.

41,000 on my 2000. I put a whopping 120 miles on yesterday duringa poker run. More miles to and from the run than
during the run itself. And not a lick of a problem so far.

22,500 on mine, and she's only 14 months old. No problems so far, and I figure I'll have the valve check done next winter, probably around 35-40K.

well having just got mine (again) my silver baby has turned over 7k today but I'm really intending to do some serious miles on this one, I know she can do it.. all I need to do is keep her- will be nice to do 50k+ on one bike :fing02:

My '07 has 1600km on it. (1000 miles)

To be fair, I only had it for about a month last year before winter set in. Summer's just beginning here in the Great White North. Let the fun begin.

Only 11,000 on mine. I can only commute during the summer. I work at a school, and bring my two teenage daughters with me every day. Three-up doesn't work too well, especially in the winter time. On top of that, my commute is exactly 1.3 miles. Magically, somehow my summer commute transforms into 10-20 miles. Funny how that happens. :fing02:

The only real mileage I can put on it is the occasional all-day or weekend trips. I wish I had more time to ride, but I guess I'm content with the balance in life right now. Someday I'll do a cross country trip, I'm sure of that.

40K on my 2002 6th gen

My 98 has about 47K. Was a committed canyon, mountain back road blaster. Now a lowly lane splittin' commuter. :warranty: Damn gas prices. Got to get a Prius and rededicate the Interceptor.

2002 45000, all good. Other than the damn small throttle surging.

Bought my '02 new in July '04. 31K+ miles

VFR750FJ (RC24) 1988 207,724 miles!

Currently being stripped, cleaned and rebuilt.

O for universal jointed fingers and carbon/kevlar coated knuckles.

1985 vf700f 46,606 miles

46000 miles on the clock so far, but i ride this bike more than i drive my truck (at least when she's running right and the weather isnt horrid). vfr's really are great commuter bikes, even the old 1st gens :fing02:

'04 bought feb '07 -21k+ miles

98 bought with 14,450 in June, has 18,xxx on it now. It's in almost showroom condition, and the 2nd owner averaged 150 miles a year for 3 years....it's definitely been babied. I'm looking forward to adding 100,000+ miles to it in the next few years.

Sadly my '86 died prematurely in 2004 with a modest 210000+ km (130000+miles) on the clock. Damn.. it was only just run in.. :)

1999 VFR 800Fi. Original owner. Just turned over 32,000 miles
Longest sequential trip was 7,000 miles over 6 weeks. Was way fun. <grin>

Had to adjust the valves, and replaced the dreaded rectifier one time .... and that's it for problems!

Verrah fun and reliable scoot - best streetbike I have ever owned.
I like it so much that I spent some serious coin delinking the brakes, upgrading the forks, and installing a Penkse shock.

Why? Because I can't find a better bike out there that fits my needs and riding style so well.

I love my "Big Red" ....!

52500 no valve adjustments, toasted stator and did the usual wiring gremlin ejections. Otherwise flawless. 107hp to wheel with pcll and full 2bro system.

I feel somewhat embarrassed to say this but here it goes. My 08 just flipped 1k today. She's still going strong, I mean she's just breaking in. :fing02:

so im curious....some folks on this thread have some REALLY high miles on their old viffers (107k + on a 1st gen! wheatie, you rock!) im curious as to how some of yall get so many miles on your bikes. i guess this would end up being a poll question. are your miles (a) commuting to work and back daily, (b) a TON of leisure time spent on the bike, or © completely blowing off your cage unless/until you NEED to use it (ie carrying passengers, large items, or avoiding really bad weather)?

as old and rough as mine is, i can stand tall and claim ©. im just hoping to roll that odometer further than 47,000 miles soon....despite how much i ride lately, i just cant compete with mileage like 100k+

A couple months after getting my VFR I sold my cage and had the VFR as my primary transport for about a year, also did a lot of leisure time riding that year.

Now, I only ride twisties and sometimes trailer the 45 miles to where they start :+1: . I usually log 450-500 miles every trip out, which is usually once every 7-14 days.

ETA: I am at over 70K miles now, up from the 65K I posted in the start of this thread.

All of the above add up over time ... plus the 4,000 - 7,000 mile sportbike/tour trips add chunks in a hurry.

And those are the best ones!

21K miles on my 99. It had 16K when I bought it a year ago. It has had the typical electrical gremlins, but they are manageable (and I'm no wrench). I can see riding thids bike for another ten years and being very happy with it. The real cool thing about this is that it only cost about $4K.

'00, 109,000km & counting...

I used to ride an '85 VF700C (magna) and it was pretty much high traffic, stop and go, commuting bike year round in the Pacific NW (dry summers, rainy winters). Bought it with about 15K miles and sold it (still running strong) at about 85K miles. Had to replace a coil on it once and the ignition switch, but no major work to the engine at all. In fact, I think I only had it in the shop once for a general tune up in the 70k miles I put on it. Just changed the oil every 2-3K miles. The guy I sold it to hasn't ridden it much (if at all...he was new to motorcycles and got cold feet about riding it)...I may have to think about getting it back as a 2nd bike.

Closing on 65,000 miles. Will work on that tomorrow. Might be almost time for an aftermarket pipe.

My '07 RWB has 2,500 on it now, going to put alot more on it! I got it in July of this year. I came off of a fully modded RC51 that I had for 5 years. And it had full Ohlins on it. So I putting Ohlins on the VFR. Some of the things that I learned from the RC, I'm trying with the VFR. I'm making the VFR has bullet proof as possible. I really like this bike! :biggrin: It's my do everything bike! I ride it to work, shopping, cruising, touring, a trackday or two, etc. When the weather is bad (winter) I normally drive my PowerWagon.

Just got my 98' two weeks and 1 day ago with 10,990 and turned 13,150 today which is 2,160 so far. This is my primary and only vehicle and I commute to work 105 miles total plus leisure riding all adds up. Of course no problems since iv'e had it but plan on replacing the R/R in the near future because those do tend to go out and i'm riding from here in Orlando to Charlotte NC hopfully in the next two weeks.

I am currently at 27,500. I do 7K miles a year, nearly all commuting. I wish I could get out and ride more, but just don't have the time/funds to manage it.

got 65,000 miles on my 2000 vfr. It was running great at 60,000 miles and I did check the valves, and they were a little tight. Adjust the valves, clean the air filter(k&n), new set of plugs and I bet it picked
up 10 horses. I love this bike, no leaks, no noises and it always get ridden fast, either the back roads or trackdays.

Is an RVF allowed to vote???

02 @ 41K miles. I moved too close to work (4.25 miles) so my 10k per year average has dropped significantly. I am trying to make it up in road trips. :goofy:

My '86 has 13,000 it sat alot of it life in someones garage.
I've put 3,000 on it in the last year and 1/2 Hope to take it 2400 going from NC to TX and back in October

Just over a year later, she's now at 49K. Valve check was done at 32K (all in spec), and the only mechanical/electric failure thus far has been the stator burning out at 42K.

My present ride (Black Betty II) has 85000kms. But my original VFR, the red one, had 163000kms when it was written off in an accident.

Added another 700 miles this week. Rode to work twice, and cruised around with the wife Tuesday, and Saturday. We stopped at Mabry Mills on the Parkway, saw a '79 CBX, with 6500 miles, parked next to a pregnant porpose, next to a Duc 907 IE. What a sight.

This was on 6-2-09 right after I got backed into, but the good news is I got my replacement forks & she will be adding to that figure this afternoon :blink: When she came to me 5/8/06 21,915.0

so 38,109 miles in 1124 days for an average of 33.9048 miles per day :fing02: No wonder why I have such a good outlook :biggrin:

I thought to myself...same here...in the 75,000km of travel, I've done oil (8K interval), tires (12K intervals), brakes (25K intervals), 2x the 36K service routine (all fluids & air filter) valve check at 45K (grrr... :biggrin: ), and finally spark plugs at 72K. And amazingly enough NOTHING has every broke...knock on wood...

Oh yeah, it also still runs sweet... :blink:

I'm still on original head stem bearings too, the first thing I did was tear down the front end and lube that area and snug it up when bike was NEW, they come loose right off the floor.

and I ride alot of rough road too, I'm kinda suprised I havent had issue yet, since so many thrash them in less than 20,000 mile it seems.

Next is the Forks seals, still original, I use special fork covering to keep debri off them and thin applications of armoral aide with keeping seal wipers from fragmenting.

THIS MAY BE 2ND OR 3RD POST TO THIS THREAD. THE MILEAGE KEEPS GETTING HIGHER SOMEHOW.

I've got 42K on an 06. First valve check @ 41K and all were well within specs...

The '99 (which I just bought last month) had 35k on it. ...now it has 40. My '96, which I sold a couple years ago, had 97,8xx on it when I sold it and still ran like a champ.

My 98 just turned 43K. I bought it last July with 22.9k. Runs like new money!! My first CBR600RR (an 88) was purchased with 2.9k and sold with 44K!

Between being deployed and training for deploying my 07 has right under 5k on the clock, picked it up new in the crate April 08. That should be resolved as soon as I get home though. We are planing a few Semper Rides and a 5 day trip to Boone, NC. As an added bonus I am getting a non-deployable duty station this winter. So, lots of extra ride time for me.

My '04 has 69k miles, and the '03 had 38k when Honda 'traded' me for the '04 (it had 3 miles on it when I got it in 2005).

My '99 has about 25,500 miles on it right now. When I bought it this past winter it had 21,000 miles. Valves were checked and everything was good, so I'm hoping to have this bike for a long time.

My 08' VFR has 9,600m....... As of the 1st of this month, I've had it 4 months... :mad:

I am the third owner and have about 36000 mi. on my sweetheart. :cool: I don't commute and most of my 8,000 in the 2 years that I have owned her areare between Angeles Creast Hwy andmy trips to the Rock Store. LA is a great place for bike owners...ocean rides and mountain twisties on the same day.

Passed 66,000 with mine today. Needs fork seals, which it will get soon.
But otherwise runs and goes as good as it did when I got it nearly new 10+ years ago.
Considering it's garage mate has been getting more ride time lately,
I see no reason it can't go until they no longer make gas,
or until they pry my cold dead hands off the grips.
Hopefully both are a long ways off yet. I got places to go, riding to do. :cool:

44,600 on my 2004. Just did CMTs myself, going to do forks this week. Need lower right headlight bulb, running beautifully, can't imagine any other bike I'd rather have right now.

Oh, and what kind of miles are people putting on? I have no commuting miles on mine, almost no freeway miles. Mainly twisty backroads, scenic roads through western states and BC and Alberta.

Less than 100 miles till the bike turns 47k. This bike should have a LOT more miles but with grad school over past 1.5 years (and at least 2 more to go) I'm just not riding as much as I'd like.

2000 with 75K miles now.

The R/R went out at 60K. Installing the spare I had on hand took about an hour. No big deal.

Other than that, no problems.

I am not putting as many miles on it now because in March I picked up a 2006 FJR 1300 to go along with my VFR.

I still love the VFR and plan on keeping it and seeing how many miles I can put on it.

HispanicSlammer, many thanks for updating your mileage total. You are an inspiration and I have enjoyed following your adventures for many years now.

I just rode 5,000 miles in a week after just changing the oil. I had no problems whatsoever. Man, I love my VFR.

Thanks for posting this poll. I love to see the reports about all the high mileage VFRs.

Third owner of my '97. Bought it in 01/05(?) with 7,000 on it. I've got it up to 52,xxx now. Hope to get a couple more miles out of my bike (like maybe another 50k)

Got the '06 with 1,700 miles on it and started riding it at Thanksgiving last year. Just turned 24,000 miles. Should be over 30K for the first year of ownership come Turkey day '09. :rolleyes:

85k miles and counting, on a '00.

Will add a couple more thou next week, taking a little ride to Oregon and NorCal for some twisty fun.

I'm the 2nd owner, though it only had <2600 miles on it when I bought it in '01.

42000 on my recently acquired 98- almost 9000 since August of 2009 and every one better than the last- but not as good as the next!!! Only problem has been two R/R replacements- first by previous owner @ approx 17k last by me @ approx 34k- at least she's been consistent so far! :beatdeadhorse:

65,000 km (about 40,000 mi) on mine - bought it new in 1994 and it has never missed a beat since. Now have a 5th gen as well - a '99 with only 7,500 miles on it. My 4th gen was getting soooo lonely in the garage during the winter months - I solved the problem by getting a cousin there for company!

28,000 on the ol yellow peril

10 months ago and there is now 36,000 on the peril.

Just turned 50 K on my '00. I've almost always had another bike, including BMW touring bikes, so most of the riding has been local sport rides. Never a problem.

I tried to sell it again this year, but buyers seem to think it's high mileage. Five k a year is high? So I guess I'm stuck with this beauty, and I know I'd miss it like hell if it ever went away.

I just bought my 1996 with 31k on it and it runs perfectly

Let's not forget Stan, the UK motorcycle courier who, as reported in Bike Magazine (UK) May 2005, did 852,000 miles on his 90 VFR750. He replaced the engine at 440,000 miles after blowing a head gasket, and only replaced the bike when it was totalled at 852K. He rode about 600 miles per day.

My 97 has 72,000 miles and seems to run better every day.

I got a 97 with 51k and still runs the same as the first day I got it. I love that bike!

1st of March '09 , I bought my new '08 with zero miles......... I now have 39k miles. Should have 40k+ by Tmac.

Bought my 2004 two years ago next month with 24k miles and now I have about 45k miles, so 21k put on by me. I have an ST1300 that gets most of the long distance and two up miles. I think the VFR runs better than when I got it...Helluva bike!

I have a 2002 VTEC. I bought her in 2009 with ~ 14,000 miles on her. Now after three summers she has ~37,000 miles. Should I dumb the bitch and switch for a newer speciment? I just wonder if I would get anything worth the difference if I would buy some newer 6th gen.

Though she has been always behaving really nicely. Only time she left me on the road was because of a rotten battery.

Using BC's idea I've done the following.

- Around 40 sets of tires
- 7 chains and 5 sets of sprockets
3-4 batteries
@ 28k installed newly revalved/resprung forks and Ohlins rear shock
@ 32k first CCT's
@ 40k flushed brake/clutch fluids
@ 56k installed first set of PR2's
@ 60k switched to PP/PR2 combo and had the Sargent seats foam changed
@ 71k new fork seals & oil
@ 75k synced Starter valves, flushed antifreeze, new T-stat
@ 85k installed Dunlop Q2's rear at wear bars at 1600 miles
@ 87k back to PP/PR2 combo
@ 92k new Rear CTT
@ 94k finally had Harness Recall work done(Dealer F#*!ed it all up)
@ 95,500 pulled rear drive assembly apart to replace bearings.
Waiting on parts so i can ride!!!

Can't wait to hit 100k miles. :smile:

Well it's been awhile...now up to 135,000km (~85,000mi.) The damn stator finally gave up the ghost, in West Virginia of all places :sad: as in 2500km from home...

1x stator
3x chains (+sprockets)
1x CCT
2x front brake pads
3x rear brake pads
1x rear shock
1x steering head bearings
1x sub-frame :ohmy: (watch how you load that top box!)
umpteen tires
1,000,000+ smiles...

Currently at 97k miles with my 94. (I bought it 3rd-hand ten years ago, already with 32k on it. So the last 65k are mine.)

In that time, I've put on:
-7 sets of tires
-1 new battery
-3 sets of chains + sprockets (always replaced at the same time)
@39k valve check, new reg/rec
@58k valve check, installed stainless front brake lines
@74k rebuilt front fork & rear shock, replacing springs with Hyperpro spring kit
@88k replaced starter clutch, installed factory pro shift star
@90k replaced front brake discs

She's still running strong...

Replaced chain/sprockets at about 36k.

Replaced stator at about 42k.

Brake pads all around sometime between those two jobs.

Love this bike.

After 1 year & a week I have 4800 on my 08 I got new last march 16 for a late bday gift to myself. Best gift ever!

We are about a week away from Easter Sunday 2013, and he stands at 43,231 miles.

No real work done yet.

New brake pads x2.

New battery x1 (ran on the stock battery until just two days ago).

New chain x2 (most recent along with the new battery)

Clutch and Brake bleed x1

New plugs x1

New tires x3 (soon to be x4)

New oil x4 (soon to be x5)

I can't think of anything else. Still starts up and runs like a pent up bull. Chased a new Ferrari 599 through the canyons today and he couldn't pull away. ;)

I bought it with 98k, and have ridden it exclusively in the last 8 months.

Pulled in to the driveway tonight after work and the odo ticked over to 85K miles even on my '99.

Bike is nowsomewhere near 85,000 kilometres/53,000 miles.

Not bad when you consider we have a 6 month riding season.

Just finished a Great 425 mile loop last weekend and the odo ticked over 98,000 miles, that's like fifty billion kilometers I think. :wink:

My 99 has made it to a little over 132,000 miles.

60000 on my 2002. The bike only got used for four years out of its ten year life: from 2002-2004, 2006 (sat for most of 2005) and one three week period in 2007. Crossing my fingers that it will be reliable in the coming years after its long hiatus.

^Change fluids, keep an eye on the battery, and think about new tires.

Oh, and ride it hard, put it away wet!

EDIT:  went back and looked at your threads...I guess the PO must have repainted it?  Anyway, looks awesome.  Ever get your harsh ride sorted out?  No doubt you could change the fork oil and get some improvement...

First VFR bought in '06 with 4,000. Now at 105,000. (This machine sat unridden under repair a total of 12 months- saving up funds for repair.)

Second bought in '12 with 18,000. Now at 33,000.

I average 17,000+ mi/yr. And I live in Minnesota (winter five months long).

But I retired in '05 and ride whenever I can. For the non-winter of '11 - '12 the longest I did not ride was two weeks. Roadcrafter is essential around here.

Only three short rides this past winter. Damn!
