OK guys, Instead of multiple PM's, let's use this thread to work on getting together for a day/weekend ride. I am good for either one, any weekend. Rabidsnipe is booked the second half of April, Ernie is game almost any time, and OKCVFR sounds interested too. Day rides could be up into the NE part of the state around Tenkiller lake and Talequah, weekend ride should be the Ozarks. What's your input?

First off, I love spring!
I'm gone April 10th-15th to Big Bend Texas at the STN Region 2 Meet & Eat. I'm also gone April 26th-28th (I think the dates are right, the weekend before Texas MAC) to Arkansas with some buddies I used to work with at Tinker. Other than that I'm pretty open. Because of those two motorcycle trips, and some trips that I'm taking with my wife later in the year, I only have 1 more vacation day left this year! Because of that, if we do a weekend trip, I'd prefer it just be an out and back on a Saturday/Sunday.
If we do a weekend trip, I'd prefer AR/MO (as if there is another 1 night option). I'd like to do something in northern AR or southern MO because I haven't ridden up that way much. I'm sure that Ernie has some great suggestions for routes up in that area. I know there is also some stuff in NE OK that I haven't done yet that I'm sure would be worth the trip.
As far as day trips, I'd be up for doing what we did with Ernie two years ago. That was a lot of fun. Tenkiller is likely to get packed on the weekends the warmer it gets, so if we do that, let's do it before Memorial Day. If you really cook it (ie take I-40) you can make it out to Talihena and back in a day. That gets you HWY 2 and HWY 82 in one day; it would be kind of a long day with quite a bit of interstate.
I'll try to post some more ideas later tonight or tomorrow but I got to get to the gym/church. Later.
I am on board for this guys. Looks like sometime after April is going to be our best bet. Gary, you mentioned in a PM maybe hooking up with Miguel, if he comes this way enroute to the TexasMac meet. That would be good also, since I missed the opportunity last year. I prefer a one day ride but with enough advance planning might be able to do an overnighter. Lots of good stuff up here in NE Okla and Arkansas is not that far.

Ernie
I don't think Miguel's plans are firm yet, but he is planning to ride the Ozarks on the way to T-Mac. It might take a day or two of vacation, but it would be cool if the "locals" could join up for the ride through Arkansas. Maybe Slammer will chime in here about his plans. I know Cattleman's has another steak with his name on it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/goofy.gif)
I won't be able to join you guys if you go out on a ride during the week (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Ernie, how much is involved with "enough advance planning"? Are we talking years... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

About a week should be sufficient. Much further away than that and I tend to forget!

I say we try for an overnighter. It seems like you can have more fun when you know that you don't have to backtrack everything that you just rode over. Like I've said before, basically anything in April is shot for me. What weekends look open in May for everyone?
FYI: I noticed Chase mentioned riding southern MO. I was up there last weekend and the road surfaces were far from great. We checked out several roads east of Branson and most were covered in gravel to the point that it made me overly cautious in the corners. 125 was just re-graveled last summer so I'm sure it's mostly leftovers but I don't know why the others are so junky. It really took the fun out of the ride.
Thanks for the heads up Dutch. I guess we can stick to Arkansas roads. They always seems to be in great shape. I saw an ad for Arkansas geared towards motorcyclists the other day; they even mentioned their great road surfaces. Weird.
Well based on Dutch's advice, maybe we should just stick to northern AR (AK?? who cares). I've never been through Eureka Springs.
I'd be up for a two day trip, sometime in mid May perhaps? I haven't been around Eureka Springs either, it should certainly be on the schedule. It doesn't look like I will be able to make the T-Mac, so a couple of days in Ark is doable. Let's try to schedule before Memorial Day to beat any heavy traffic.
I'm also interested in this deal, over night would be great for us. My girlfriend would be going with me, and she would have a better time if any wifes or girlfriends were going.

My wife is only good for about 30 minutes on the back of the VFR. Eureka Springs is right out!

My wife does not like motorcycles and refuses to ride on the back. I wish she did though, it would be more enjoyable is she did and I would be able to make more trips on the bike.
Even though not everyone will bring along there significant other, she is more than welcome to join us.
Ditto on the more than welcome to join. The more the merrier.
OT (kind of) I'm glad to see some more VFR folks in OK. We had about five there for a little while, and then one dumped his, one sold his, and then one almost died!!! I hope that this gets up off the ground unlike our last attempt at an overnight (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
Right now the dates in May that I could potentially make (kitchen pass required) would be the weekends of May 10th, 17th or 31st. 3rd is our anniversary weekend (can't miss) and the 24th is Memorial Day weekend. Any preference among the group?

FYI: If you are gonna be around Eureka Springs then you might get lucky with that area of Missouri. I was in that section late last summer and the roads were good but I haven't been on that side so far this year. Roaring River State Park was pretty nice. We went through there on Miguel's ride last year. 62 west out of ES is great, 76 to Cape Fair, 112...just remember that Branson is mecca for blue hairs and gets a lot of traffic in the area.

I am planning on riding April 28-29 with Hispanic Slammer and Dutch through the Ozarks. May 31 may be good as it is the weekend after Memorial weekend. I am open to any date though.

Where/when are you meeting Slammer and Dutch? I would like to try and make a portion of that ride with you guys. Regarding the original discussion, most of the weekends in May are good but I won't be doing any overnights. We can still get in some good riding on the way to AR and I can show you some options on how to return.

Can't say, Chase. The wife is having a difficult recovery from the partial knee replacement so for now I don't feel right about playing overnight when she has such a tough time getting around. Might be a year before she is fully recovered. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Totally understand wanting to stay closer to home.
For those who are curious, Monday April 28th will see Slammer in OK, going to Russellville that night. Tuesday is Northern Arkansas day, ending in TN.
Dutch, myself, and possibly one other are coming up from Texas and meeting in Russellville. I will be heading back after Tuesday, they will continue on to TMac. Be cool to meet some OK people

Your right, that would be cool. However, I'm still a lowly engineer (I've only been working almost two years) and don't have very much vacation. With trips to Big Bend (on the motorcycle), Arkansas in late April (on the motorcycle), Oregon (visit her parents), and DC (visit her other parents), I have none left (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
Thanks for the invite though.
