edit: I must be doing something wrong with the Google embed. Here's the link: Google Map
Unfortunately, the whole ride between Huntsville and Birmingham is west of the really good stuff. Hopefully, Bent can recommend something else but this is close to the route I used one day to get there. Kept me off the highways and was a nice relaxing ride.
In Pensacola, we used to hit the Blue Angels Bar (look for the pic of the Apache and it's armament, my buddies and I got to sign it. Our claim to fame there.) and the French Quarter but I've heard the whole area is suffering right now.
In Panama City, go to Salty's. Find the manager (tall, bald dude) and tell him Seamus from Huntsville said Hi. If he doesn't remember me by name tell him to remember the day before spring break started this year and the big bald guy who spent $400 to start their season off right. Not saying you're old or anything, but Salty's usually has an older crowd (30+) and is more my style than the MTV guys and gals running around the other places.
I may not know all the good roads, but I can name bars in every party place in the US and Europe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/goofy.gif)
I am leaving Tommorrow AM (by noon anyway), I just split up with my jealous girlfriend (again), so tommorrows a new day, I got a full tank of gas and some granola bars, ready for a nice roadtrip. send me any info as will check site one more time, thanks Doug (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fing02.gif) (IMG:http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q138/DougFromIndy/tshirt.jpg)
Also looks like I will be in dwntwn KNOXVILLE, TN and the return back to Indpls ***ON TUES 4/29 and WED 4/30 *** Holiday Inn @ papermill , kirby rd, KNOXVILLE, so anyone in early for Tmac or in the area to ride tues and wed, let me know, thanks Doug
When you are in Huntsville continue down the Memorial Parkway (231)...stay on 231 all the way to Hwy 11 outside Trussville, Al. You will go through towns like Lacy Springs, Arab, Oneonta, etc. When you come to Hwy 11 turn right...you will come into Trussville...turn right on Deerfoot Crossing at a Shell convenience store...you will come to the ramp to put you on I-59...I-59 takes you over to I-20 (not very far) where you get off for Barber Motorsports.
I would be more specific, but it's 2:00 AM and I'm just trying to put you something up before you head out..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
The 231/ 11 Route is fairly scenic, low traffic.....some curves, not a lot of real twisties.....2-lane and 4-lane.....you can make good time, and it scoots you over to the more scenic side (East) of Birmingham............ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fing02.gif)
Ok, from the info I gathered on here, I will stay towards the east side/border of AL, heading down thru TN right at where TN meets the North borders of AL and GA, not sure whats there but using that as a map point...will jump over to stay wed night in Huntsville but stiil ride the east side of AL north to south with a stop at Barber museum, thanks Doug

Yep.....if you look on the map and find a cluster of towns along the Tn border above Huntsville, Al...(Fayetteville, Huntland, Winchester, Tullahoma, etc. ).....you'll see Estill Springs...that's where I'm at.............. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fing02.gif)
Bent, Apr 21 2008, 05:50 PMLittle late for you (been outta town) but there isn't a "scenic" way from Huntspatch to Bham. The museum, however, is awesome.
Hey, 231/ 11 is pretty nice......a lot better than I-anything.............. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fing02.gif)
