How To Remove Rear Fender?

I need to remove the rear fender, and it looks like there are four bolts that hold it in place, but the one bolt is buried...

Do I have to take the whole tail apart to remove this fender, or does anyone have a trick for easy removal?

...just wait til you see why I'm removing this fender... It's gonna be great...

Not sure about the removal, but I think there's something on the site about installing the fender eliminator that might help.

So....what do you have in mind for your mod? Am I close:

There are 2, 12mm bolts underneath and 2, 10's under the seat. You dont have to take the tail apart but you may need a swivel socket for the bolts under the seat.

Thought there were 4

You dont have to take the tail apart but you may need a swivel socket for the bolts under the seat.

And you prolly will have to take the a$$ off, due to the fact that they put nuts in, on the inside, (holding the license plate/fender frame), And the bolts spin freely.

Yah. + 4 to remove the entire plastic, "sail".

So, this was the only post I could find on removing the fender. HOw do you get at the two 10mm bolts under the seat that are right next to the taillight???? There is no way a socket is grabbing on to them.

Do you need to take off the tail light? if so how? I looked in my owners manual and there was nothing.

It's been a long time since I did this mod, but I seem to remember that I had to loosen the rear cowl and slide it back about 1/2 inch in order to get a socket in there. I don't remember having to remove the tail light.

As the plastic is growing older, you should loosen the rear cowl, and pull it back. I did mine, years ago, and was able to loosen the tail light, and flanagle it down, while still in the rubber grommets. (Enough to get an open end wrench, in there).

If you have to mess with any nuts/bolts that are being held on by the plastic base, be sure you don't torque the plastic, I had to use some channellocks to hold the plastic still when I loosening my tail section, installing my hard bag hardware. Almost ripped the plastic before I saw it tweaking......
