Chain Problem

Hello I have a 2003 Honda vfr abs. I have replaced the chain and front and rear sprockets. I notice that the chain is tight in one place and loose in another. What�s wrong?

How long ago did you replace it? have you cleaned and lubed it every 500 miles? you have some tight links if its at the master link you may have over tighten the link to the chain.

No it is brand new, just put on. could the rear wheel be out of alignment?

What make of chain is it? Is it tight by the master link? The rear wheel will not be out of alignment but is the rear sprocket on all the way? Have you rode on it yet? You could try to lube it and do some riding and see how that works. Should have about 1 inch of play checked at the lower middle of the chain (near center stand feet with center stand up.

I had a situation where the chain, when I spun the wheel, would tighten momentarily, then look "normal".  My chain had about 10k on it and was probably due for replacement anyway, so I got the new chain and had it installed at the local Honda dealer.  I asked about the momentary tightening  --  the answer?  "that's normal".....   ok, I'm left to go figure !  After installing the new chain, it doesn't tighten at all, but runs straight and true.  This, from a dealer, no less ! ! !   wtf?     :goofy:     New chain is a DID gold, o-ring   --- fyi

addendum............ 9/3/08      F.Y.I.   After having run it aggressively for 342 miles, the DID stretched no more than 1/4" slack and stayed well within limits.  Also, no tight spots....     :fing02:
