I'm going to run this route tomorrow (sat 9/20) at 9:00am to nail down a meetup location and try and find a suitable lunch stop. If anyone wants to run tomorrow morning, just send me a PM and we'll meet up... Otherwise I'll post up tomorrow afternoon with meetup locations (including pictures for those VALERO challenged riders...)
I resemble that remark! . See you guys next Sunday in Beumont.
Shayne, I think you will find the ride through Hemet to be extremely uninspiring. Miles of traffic signals. The run up the hill at the very end is fun if you can manage to avoid traffic, but based on my experience riding these roads your initial proposed route is much better IMO. The 243 from Banning to Idyllwild (uphill) is one of my favorite runs ever. Be sure to check the roadside cafe at the 74/371 junction.

Let us know how it goes.
I spend all week at traffic lights with lots of cars and miles upon miles of straight roads, I'd like to avoid that on the weekends if at all possible.
That being said... you lead, I'll follow
Sweet... I am really looking forward to this ride! I love the 243! I just broke up with my girlfriend, and riding always seems to help. See you guys Sunday. Thanks Shayne for pulling this ride together.
Let's see, 92 mile slab ride, 137 mile fun ride and 92 mile slab home. What's not to love. Seems like between Bob, Scott, Jon and myself we could come up with some kind of a SLAB FERRY. Oh well. If I can get my cowl back on by Sat, I'm in.
Is there any talk of a mid point meet to complete the ride to Beaumont together? Maybe the 60/10 interchange or sooner.

My local shop was supposed to be installing a new rear donut on my bike today but apparently the tire's back ordered and they won't install it until Friday. Since I can't ride on Saturday and I probably won't ride Friday night, I may be showing up Sunday on a squeaky clean rear tire with enormous chicken strips!
That's to say I may take it a little slow until I get it scrubbed in.

After having followed you up Soledad Cyn, that won't take long ! !
Hey guys. I'm going to be buying a used VFR this Sunday, too bad i'll miss you guys as it won't be done in time. Any of you guys know the guy that i'm buying it off of? It's the VFR listed on this ad.
Since it seems a number of us are coming from a ways away (I've got a 81.5mi of slab before the ride itself)
Could we move the ride start time back an hour or 2?? I'm a baby and not a morning person at all!
If you're like me the ride up in the morning is a blur. Goes by quick as you start getting psyched up for the ride. Don't get psyched out by the run up there it's the ride home that always sucks IMO. Since we're riding into Palm Desert you will be glad we left early, trust me. Where are you coming from 2F2Y?
TIRES - check GEAR - check WATER - check FUEL - check iPod - check maps - check air pressure - I'll check it later...
5:45pm decide to check the air in the tires... where's the darn gauge? can't find it! oh well, I'll just run tomorrow and check it when I find the gauge...
6:30pm head out for dinner in Ole' Yeller, notice the left rear tire is a little low, darn it, no gauge I'll just fill it up at Shell and be on my way...
8:15pm heading back from dinner. stomach feeling kinda funny. not what I ate, but this gnawing feeling that I REALLY SHOULD CHECK THE BIKE'S AIR PRESSURE...
8:20pm stop off at Target, all out of air gauges... ah forget it, I'll be fine tomorrow...
8:21pm gnawing feeling gets stronger... notice the Nissan Sentra in front of me has a flat right rear tire...
8:30pm stop off at Wal-mart find a air pressure gauge...
8:45pm check the front tire, 33.5 psi. ok fine, my worries were for nothing... now to check the back tire...
as I removed the cap, instant hiss... valve stem loose, able to unscrew it with just a finger... valve stem cap was only thing keeping air from escaping...
8:48pm relieve myself 8:49pm make it to the bathroom
9:00pm back to Walmart to find a valve stem tool
morale of the story... CHECK YOUR TIRES!!! DON'T PUT IT OFF TILL TOMORROW. HEADED OUT IN THE MORNING FOR A RATHER SPIRITED RIDE, WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD'VE HAPPENED IF I JUST WAITED TILL LATER...
Congratulations! I remember the first time I hit 79mph. I'm pretty sure it was the first day I rode my first bike...
Anyone else? When was the first time YOU hit 79mph?
ps. your clock is off just a little... just in case you don't know how to adjust it...
To adjust the time, proceed as follows:
1. Turn the ignition switch ON. 2. Push and hold both the SELECT button and RESET button for more than 2 seconds. The digital clock will be set in the adjust mode with the display flashing. 3. Push the RESET button until the desired time and AM/PM are displayed. -The time is advance by one minute, each time the button is pushed. -The time is advance by ten minutes, when the button is pushed and held. 4. To end the adjustment, press the RESET button 5 seconds after the last adjustment, or turn the ignition switch OFF.
