Well the original post for an Az ride got a "little" off track, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) after talking with a few interested riders it became apparent that not all could do a multi day ride, I am one of those so here is the proposed ride for the weekend of Oct 11-12.
I will be leaving Tucson 7 am, run 191 up to Alpine, of course stop in Hannigan Meadows for lunch, for the 1 day riders come back thru New Mexico, and slab it back into Tucson. Appx 525 miles
Those of you that want to make it a 2 day ride, stay in Show Low, return thru Salt River Canyon on Sunday, Wheatie, you can split with them in Globe and go into Phoenix, if you have time Oak Creek? sorry about the change up on that, to long of a day to do it in 1, about 800 rt from Tucson (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'm afraid I'm going to have to step out of this one. Reason? I think it would just be too many miles, and a lot of it alone.... Didn't have delusions, really wanted to ride Az, but I think my sensibilities have resolved the issue. Don't feel real good about my decision, but I think it's the wise thing to do for the ol' goat ! ! ! Now if I had an 07 RWB ----- ???????

Did some one say PCH? That would be friggin awesome. I don't get back from my deployment until may sometime though.

The guy I was riding with was from Tucsonsportbikes.org. It seems I make great impressions on people I meet for the first time........ or new people I meet bring bad luck.....no offense William.

I need to get out by myself and just enjoy me, the bike, and the scenery. I have a hard time doing that in a group - especially a large group. It makes me nervous riding in the middle of the pack anyway, so I always want to be in front or in back. Call me crazy, make fun of me or whatever but the group riding brings out the (IMG:style_emoticons/default/squid.gif) in me. I tend to be a little more conservative by myself - if you can believe that. And most of all I need to get back the skills I once had before these hiatuses. I need to remember to respect the machine I am on, listen to my internal warnings, and ride every road as if it is the first time. My ego has taken over and it is time to put it in check. I am old enough to know better, but you all know how how once you throw your leg over the bike, something inside you changes - for me lately, it has been a bad change.
Remember, I went four years from a beginner to experienced motorcyclist without even a tip-over. The past four months have not been good for me, and the last crash almost has made me call it quits to something that I love to do. If I had the money, it would be track days from now on, but that can't happen right now and I like commuting on the bike too.
So, I may just be ducking out on this ride anyway......I'll see how I feel in few weeks when the bike is done and back together.

LOL none taken. Just remember the safest place is in my view. May not always be the fastest but it is the safest. NO ONE has enough respect to crash in front of me no matter how often I crash in front of others:D

I had to pull the grip rubber off, do some filing on the sides, and grinding the end of the thumb lock off so it doesn't hit the tank but it works perfectly. They are pretty cheap too. I tried installing the Vista Cruise I bought from CycleGear yesterday. Unfortunately, it works too well. Even before I tightened it the throttle would not return to neutral after twisting it. Any nuggets of advice? **
I have a CrampBuster laying around you can use if you don't come up with something before next week. It's not a throttle lock, but your wrist takes the load of holding the throttle open. I'll take it!

I took a razor blade to shave down a bit of the grip on the backside because it was rubbing and sticking open. However, I have the super-cheapo NEP one.

Yep, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pissed.gif) me right off, like our Memorial day ride, usually 100+ in the desert, that weekend Alpine/Show low area had 14" of frikkin SNOW, it's usually in the mid 70's that time of year, grrrrrrrrrrr (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pissed.gif)
What a bunch of nervous nelly's. It's going to be beautiful. Nice, crisp fall riding weather. Nothing but sunshine and lollipops. That front is not going to reach that far east and it's going to be over before the weekend anyway. Really.

South of there a band of showers and possibly thunderstorms sets up along the leading edge of the cold air mass.
Wind will still be a big factor Friday with gusts over 60 mph possible throughout the west. The windy conditions should spread southward into Southern California setting up a prolonged strong wind event through the weekend.
About the only areas to escape this system Friday are the southern Rockies from Colorado south to New Mexico.

Synopsis...high pressure will continue to bring clear skies and light light winds tonight. Thursday and Friday...winds will increase as a storm system strengthens over the Great Basin. This storm will bring much colder temperatures...strong winds...and a chance of rain and snow showers over the weekend.

Discussion...clear skies continue over northern Arizona as a high pressure ridge remains in control of the weather across the region. A Pacific storm system moving onto the Pacific northwest coast today will strengthen as it moves into the Great Basin Thursday. For northern Arizona...this will bring increasing winds and a cooling trend through Friday.
Over the weekend...models are fairly consistent bringing a powerful and cold storm system into the region. However...there are still some discrepancies in timing and strength between the European model (ecmwf) and GFS 12z model runs. Nevertheless...all models indicate strong prefrontal southwesterly winds Friday and at least Flagstaff eastward for Saturday...along with a cold pool capable of lowering snow levels as low as 5000 feet in northwest Arizona. Models keep indicating the system will be quite moisture starved...with the main chance for any subtropical moisture tap occurring in southeastern Arizona and east central Arizona.
Late Sunday and Monday...the system is expected to eject northeastward...however a trailing shortwave or closed low may affect northern Arizona through Tuesday. As a result...temperatures may be slow to warm up next week

The DM weather shop just told me the high in Safford will be ~88F (they couldn't pull anything on Alpine). The BL is that Saturday's ride will be like today with some wind. That front Crusin was talking about has stopped it's southern push and is now moving west to east.

They have dropped the chance of rain to 30%, thats the good news,,, heres the rest,,, now they predict 34mph wind, higher gusts, 28 for a low, 57 for a high, the time we roll down the hill to where its warm in Alpine, guessing around 1 it should be in the low 50's.

To be honest with you guys, the wind will NOT be much fun at all, if they boost that up much more I will be rethinking that long of a ride, goin into a corner and getting hit with a 40 mph side wind is not my idea of a good ride.
