Just curious what gearng changes work and how they affect the bikes ridablitly..
I will be putting a chain/gears on mine in a few months. What are the performance changes with the bike with the following.
REAR +1/2, I kow on a bicycle its more like fine tuning but how much of a change does it make on the VFR?
Front -1 Huge change or slight..
Both -1 +2 I imagine the answer is huge change.
Just curious how the above effect acceleration, the MPG, and RPM cruising down the slab. I'm lazy I hate searching for crap...
just curious... i see guys on hear doing one or both of the above...
i just changed all of mine and I went with -1 in the front and I must say that I am very happy with it. I ride 80 miles a day to and from work and it does not bother me at all. Side affects from doing this will be, quicker RPM climb, lower top speed, more torque on the start and a slight rattle sound from the front sprocket that the dealership told me is totally normal! I have not noticed any difference in the MPG but I do not really pay attention. I would recomend it!

Quick search came up with this one!

I saw that thread
Being anal I was looking for some direct comparisons, then again maybe I'm beign to anal about it...
So either -1dn front or +2up in rear the effect is basically the same? It would seem the +2 in the back might be easier on the chain.

OK then 1-dn front is like up 2-3 in the rear and adding to the rear is easier on the chain somewhat.
Simple match can be applied(lucky for me) and you just look at stock gearing of 16/43(vtec) and you get 2.687. Drop 1 (15/43)and you get 2.866. add 2 rear(16/45) and you get 2.812.
I've run 1-dn for the last 50k miles w/o issue. If you plan to replace your chain & sprockets anyway, then I would go up to on the rear, if you just want to change gearing and try it out cheap just spend $30 & 30 min and drop a 1-dn sprocket on. :fing02:
wow 30 bucks is cheap! Might have to try that out first :fing02:

Yep, that's my point. You can try the change for a little bit of time and $30 vs chain ($130) and new sprockets ($80-110). If you don't like it no loss, if you do you can order the 45t rear with the longer new chain(needed).
I went plus 2 in the rear and it just woke the bike up. It has so much better pick up now. Revs are slightly higher on the interstate cruise and the speedometer is off even more. I like it.
So its like adding warp drive for the cost of impulse power.... :goofy:
for 30 bucks I think I'll try it...Hell I already think its to fast might as well go fer the gusto! :491:
I went +2 in the rear and honestly I can't say that I really noticed that much of a difference in acceleration. I'm not in the habit of lifting up the front end so perhaps I wouldn't really know, but I've heard from some people here that if you go -1 on the drive you can casually lift the front in first gear and with a bit of effort in 2nd. Again, I haven't tried to lift the front end in my current configuration (maybe I should now just to see), but I don't think it would be that much easier than if the gearing were stock. Perhaps someone can correct me on this for my lack of experience.
I went with -1 front AND +2 rear...... :warranty: :squid: :wheel:
If you do both, the stock 110 links will fit. If you only do the rear, you WILL need 112 links.
Puts your wheel up in a first gear roll on as you approach VTECH.
I did it in second once too; I'm still trying to figuire out how, but I think I held it at about 6K briefly and then opened up the throtlle when it hit 7K. I really don't do that (much), but it gives you an idea what the gearing change does to the bike.
Can't use top speed anyways, unless I want to lose my bike, so I chose it to improve low end torque.
With six gears, I'm still only revving 5 grand at 125kmh = 77.5 mph.
Not really focussing on gas mileage too much, but I'm sure it must be a little lower.
BTW, I have an extra almost new 45T Stealth with about 500 miles on it;

Chad from Sprocket Center found me a black/gold one.
