ok guys, heres one for ya.... first off:
02 vfr,k&n filter, o2 disconnected and resisitored, brand new complete wiring harness from honda. otherwise stock

after I got the bike back from honda for recall wiring harness, exhaust smells rich and bikes max speed is 120ish(indicated) I don't normally ride that fast, but if power is missing there, it must be missing from other places too. it doesn't have as much snap as it used to.
I thought about just biting the bullet and getting a power commander to remedy this, but I would rather have it running at spec before anything else.
bike temperature seems normal, 172 on the highway, anything above that in the city

researching on here found someone with a similar problem and one answer was that the computer was stuck in 'warm up mode', shooting a rich mixture to help warm the catalytic converter. if this is a valid suggestion, what would a fix be?

WORST case scenario I could take it back to honda and tell them to remedy this, but I would much rather do it myself

is there a way to pull a code from the computer to tell me what, if any errors it is throwing out?

Maybe they forgot one or two connectors and the ECU is now in failsafe (closed loop) mode. I would let your dealer have a look at it.

dirty,

Did it start right away after the Dealer harness work or over a period of time? Could be something as simple as a unplugged sensor.
You can find out how to pull error codes in the "How to" or "FAQ" sections in the tool bar.

My guess would be a disconnected/bad spark plug wire. This would account for the rich smell and lack of horsepower.

+1 on checking the sparkplug wires. Dealer trapped one of mine behind the oil cooler so I didn't catch it right away. I rode 3-4 times with it unplugged and I experienced exactly what you are talking about. Although mine is a 5th gen.

thanks guys. I will check all of that stuff when I get back home from thanksgiving.

it started immediately after picking up from dealer.
vtec still works
didn't check plug wires. figured it would be more of a severe lack of power, but I will look at that

I'm 99% that its nothing mechanical. I've got 5 months until I can ride again, so plenty of time to check connections and figure this out
