I've NEVER paid over $90 for a battery before. Granted, it's been quite some time since I've had to buy one, but damn, almost two hundred bucks seems a little extreme.
I got my OEM type Yuasa battery for my 4th gen about 2 months ago from my neighborhood Honda bike dealership and it cost me about $100.00.
I wouldn't think a 6th gen's battery should cost any more than than about the same....unless it has some sort of VTEC rpm actuated powervolt feature in that we don't know about. :huh:
Go to another dealer. I think they're trying to skin you with that price. Internet would also be a good place to look for better prices.
I paid $102.10 out the door (shipped) about two years ago for a Yuasa YTZ14-S (same size as OEM, but more power). I had a coupon code for $4.99 (MBUSA007), I don't know if the code is any good anymore.

Sounds like a complete bendover. I paid $63 total for a Scorpion AGM Maintenance-free battery at Batterystuff.com. The higher-end Yuasa is $109. That includes shipping and a one-year warranty on both of them.

Call the guy back and tell him his battery isn't working well.... :laugh:
I won't buy anything without checking with the guys here. I have learned so much on this board that I actually feel like I can actually do just about any task on the bike with the support provided here. As for $200 batteries I agree with the statement above... and it better be a nice restaurant.

I have had a couple last about 5 years. I usually put them on the charger for a couple of months a year during the cold season. I think this is pretty good life although just personal experience with nothing to compare to.

Depends on use.
If a bike sits without being ridden for long periods of time, a battery can go bad in months to a year. If it is ridden a lot and/or kept on a battery tender a lot, it can last for many years.
What tends to kill VFR batteries most is over charging from R/R or other wiring problems. That is what killed mine, I boiled it until it was whistling it was so overheated from being hit with 17 volts from the charging system.

I replaced my oem, a *fukorama Brand Battery at 45,000 mile on my 06 , it was starting to get weak, 3 minutes with the lights on and the motor could no longer turn over without recharge
The Fz1 /st1300 Yuasa battery is a much stronger battery , and same size as the vfr battery
20 cca higher than yuasa brand VFR battery and .2 volt more reserve power
there are cheaper batteries and strength will vary, but this is a very nice upgrade off original oem

That's the battery I bought this summer to replace my OEM. I think I paid $130-$135 shipped. Can't remember the site, Alien, but if you can't find what you need at that price or cheaper PM me and I'll dig out the receipt.
I think my '04's OEM battery (w/over 25k on it) was still OK, but I was trying to figure out an electrical issue and went ahead and replaced the battery and a couple other items at the same time.

'00 OEM, 25k miles. Just crapped the bed this fall. I haven't replaced it yet (sssshhhhh she's sleeping right now, awaiting mods and maintenance).
I put an Interstate in mine beginning of this summer and it cost me $110. Prior to that, I had the original battery in mine. ~34k mi and 6yrs.
Having put several batteries in other bikes, the 6th gen does use a different battery. Its shorter then average. So I guess that explains the higher price.
I don't remember the brand, but I paid $72 for a battery last year at this time. I got it from either Advance Auto or Autozone.
I typically get a minimum of 5 years out of a battery, even with parking the bike for 6 months every year. I do use a Smart Tender during the storage period.
