Southern Powersports Custom Vfr's

I just went down to Southern Powersports (Chattanooga, TN) to pick up another bike cover, and got to talking to the marketing guy. He's a VFR buff and said that the dealership is putting aside one of the red '07's to use as the platform for a custom VFR. The plan is to go with a Repsol type theme, and offer the bike for sale when all is said and done. I told him I want picture when they finish it. Apparently they are going to start customizing sportbikes to sell as new bikes, and they're making the VFR bike #1. I'll keep you posted as to what happens :fing02:

They had almost a dozen VFRs from 07-09 when I was there a couple weeks ago. I'm guessing they really need to move them.

Southern Powersports has sold some very nice looking custom cruisers over the last few years, if the same people are customizing the VFRs it should be a very nice product.

Yup thats what the marketing guy was saying. They have had some really nice custom cruisers, but they didnt know the right people to break into the custom sportbike scene. I guess they finally got their ducks in a row. They are waiting on a good powdercoater, if you know of anyone local that does good powder coating. If they had a hard time moving some of those VFR's...I wonder how it'll go trying to move an $18,299 VFR :biggrin: (I really do wonder how much it'll cost when its done, and what they have in store)

If they start on suspension and then go to powdercoater, they may have a winner. But if they start doing Florida style stretch swingarms with super fat tires and chrome everywhere thing, they may end up with a bunch of custom VFRs sitting on the floor.

Chattanooga isn't that big of a " >$15k sportbike" market. They're being awfully optimistic competing with Ducati, Aprilia etc dealers in the Atlanta, Nashville, Knoxville markets.

(Wish I had some of his optimism/confidence :cool: )

From my understanding, they are going with mostly visual enhancements. Modeling the Repsol CBR. I think the plan may be orange powdercoated wheels and frame? Who knows. I'm with you on the optimism though...I think it'll be a very tough sell unless they work on performance and handling a little.

Hey must have just missed you! :mellow: I stopped in there also and got some cleaner and lube for my VFR chain. :biggrin:
I purchased my 07 VFR from them. One of the sales guy's ride's an 07 RWB VFR with Two Brothers exhaust, Ok bunch for a dealership. :laugh: They have drove the price of all Honda's new and used way down since they opened. They have a large selection of used bike's and as said a lot of 07 VFR's sitting around the huge showroom floor. I hope they do start a VFR upgrade campaign. Maybe they will carry some goodies in stock at reasonable prices. Their bike's seem to have good price's but the goodies are marked up, no discount for me even when I bought a bike. :angry:

Sounds like they're ordering up some ebay fairing kits and powdercoating the wheels, charging you more, and selling the stock bodywork to someone else or on ebay for more money...

From what I gathered from our quick conversation, fairing kits wont be used. The factory plastics will be painted by the same guy that does the custom cruisers they sell (which look really nice). Till its done, its all speculation, but I cant wait to see what they do with it. I'll keep ya posted :cool:
