Considering A 07 Vfr Non-abs

Hey all, I joined this forum for the info and that fact that I'm a Honda guy and figured some day I'd be adding a VFR to my collection. I have a 07 non abs VFR lined out that I am considering purchasing, and was wanting some input fro the 07 owner crowd on any issues that might be sort of common and try to get a feel for the need for an extended factory warranty (yes, it's a new leftover 07).

I bought my F4i and RR new and purchased the extended warranty on both, 4 additional years. To date, the F4i has only needed Tires and a battery, non warranty items of course, and the RR has only needed tires and the gas tank replaced (recall). Both are just over two years old with each having around 9,000 miles. Hind sight is always 20/20, but it is looking like my extended warranty may end up being piece of mind and no actual value (my mind at piece is of little value to me, or anyone else).

Any thoughts on this that might sway my descision one way or another?

My '07, purchased new in Jan 07, is about to turn 20k miles and the only issues have been:
- leaky water pump at 5k miles
- blown headlight bulbs at 9k miles and again at 18k miles

I replaced the pump myself ($110) even though it was still under warranty because I don't trust dealers to take enough time to do the job right. The headlight bulbs are a mystery. I've applied the "monitor wire fix" (search vfrd for more info) and it reduced the charging voltage by about .3 volts so I'm hoping the issue is resolved, but I won't know for another 8k miles :-)

Other than these minor issues the bike has been flawless. IMHO I wouldn't waste the money on an extended warranty for a Honda. Invest the money in a few simple tools and take care of the bike yourself. You'll know its done right.

I understand about you fixing the water pump yourself, I do all my own maintenance, even tire changes. Is the headlamp buld issue you experienced a common issue? Not enough to sway me away by any means, just does seem odd. Major issues to me would be the wire harness recall on the 02-05 models (the thought of a dealer doing that;) ). However, my dealer is pretty cool, my best riding bud is the store manager, and they have one really good mechanic, not flawless, but he is careful.

He changed the tank on my RR but managed to kink the drain line so washing the bike would puddle water in the cap area. An easy fix for me, my main concern is they someone else isn't the one putting a knick in my rides. If it has to be done, it's gonna be done by me.

There have been no recalls since 2005 but for peace of mind I run a small voltmeter to monitor the charging system. I think many of the electrical gremlins on this model arise because of the complexity of the wiring harness on the vfr. Some of the connectors have literally dozens of pins. Storing the bike outdoors, washing with high pressure hose, etc. eventually gets moisture in there and over the years causes corrosion/resistance issues. The good news is that the problem areas are well documented in these forums and there is plenty of experience base to draw on here.

im aslo in the market for a new or used 07-08 vfr. If you dont mind, could you tell me what the 07 is going to cost you. Ive found the 07 for 8500 and 08's for 9400-9600.

It's an 07 RWB that I've offered 8500 for, they just put it on the floor yesterday and had 9000 on it. It was an auction bike. Being the RWB is the major interest point for me.

RWB all the way!!! You may want to check with Skutter because he is selling a RWB '07 and has a ton of farkles. Good luck with your search and if I were you, I would not buy the extended warrranty. Every time I have done the extended warranty for the following TV (x2), ref. (x2), riding mower (x2) and cars (x2); I have always saw it a a costly option. Not any more. Over the years, I have had to use an extended warranty on a used car but the repair did not offset the cost of the warranty. Good luck, JD

To me the extended warranty is not worth it, unless they gave you a screaming deal on it, in order to sweeten the initial sales offer.

I was just notified of that sweet useed 07 RWB, too bad I wasn't closer! As for price of the warranty it would be 460 for the 4 year additional warranty. That's what is cost for my F4i and my RR as well. I'm leaning towards not getting the warranty, because it is a Honda. I did on the others because they were my first new bikes and I was being cautious. That cautiousness has worn off after doing my own maintenance though.

Is it the economy or the used bike market right now that has the used VFRs so low? Or is that just par for the course for used bikes?

I paid 9k for my new non ABS 07 RWB this past September. Bank told me they booked it at 8,614.00. I bought it anyway since it was what I wanted. No ext warranty and I have only about 900 miles on it so I can't help on the isses part.

Values on any "hot" item will help hold the value; for a while but when the newness or hotness wears off, so will the value. The VFR is not the hot ticket in the bike market. The 'Busa, ZX14, ZX10 and GSX'er1000 are and seem to be holding their respective values. The new V-Max will set high resale values for used models. I have noticed the new Concours has been dropping in resale value and am not sure why. There are a few in my area with less than 12,000 miles and prices are $7,500.00-$8,300.00. They came out of the box, super nova hot but there were some issues that may have caught up to them. That and the '09 models offer red and black color schemes.

Well, I got my 07 RWB used, managed to save a bundle. In fact, it was BARELY used. 516 miles on it to be exact...

And I paid...

I bought the extended waranty on my 06, cuss my self for doing so every day, even at 52,000 plus miles.

I got kinda suckered on the price of the warranty too

You can get the warrantys for about $400 for 5 years , the honda finance guy, said it was $899, but offered it for $699. Turned out it isnt even a HOnda direct warranty, its aftermarket.

Only because I'd never had a fuel injected abs mc, did I even consider it . it was added into my financing, which costs me $20 per month in payment, or $1200 by the time fully paid for.

Granted I guess, if I have a circuit board faillure or stator it would cover, but I might be more likely to just fix myself

course i've never checked the valves on the thing either , stiill running better than new

From one of the earlier post...did you buy it from "3 guys in a Van?" You stole that bike and just rubbed our noses in it! But I remember you needing a front wheel...Was the bike damaged at all? No doubt, a stong deal!
