Round Tires Are The Bomb-dig-a-dee

I was led astray by some bad people... these people told me that square tires are better.

hehe, just kidding.

actually, the new-to-me 03 VFR had some Metzer tires that had pretty much squared off, so I took a 3500 mile super slab trip on the squared off tires and didn't really have any problems. But after I got home, and riding the VFR around town, it was really difficult to turn. When I turn left and lean with the bike, there would be so much force on the grips that the front wheel want to turn even MORE left. It took all my might just to push (real hard) on the left.

i know you gotta push left and lean left to make the bike go left.... but this was ridiculous. It made riding the bike around town no fun at all.

yesterday, i finally got a new front tire on it (changed the rear one as soon as i got back from the said trip as the strings were showing) and it was night and day difference.

moral of this story? i don't know... replace your tire more often, i guess.

love my VFR now (I'd love it even more if it were lighter... oh well, my wife didnt fall for that one either)

I bought mine with squared off tires as well and thought what crappy handling this bike has!
Then I changed the tires and, well you know.

It never occurred to compare the weight of the bike to that of my wife.
I should try it tonight. Right after I come home drunk, slap'er on the arse and say "You're next, fatty" :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

Ahhhhh...the joys of new tires

I am always amazed by how, as a tire wears out, I become slowly acclimated to it.

Only realizing how terrible they are after they are replaced.

I too need tires mine are not round, so I have been told...

Since I have zero reference from owning errrr no other bike...I can't comment..

I will be sticking some Road Force II's on for spring though... I don't need Powers for how I ride.

I'm guessing you had low air pressure too! That'll make you turn really slow also!

my pressure wasn't low. I check my tire pressure fairly often (came from bicycling background).

it wasn't really turning "slow" per-se, it was just difficult to hold on to the clip-on's because they want to exaggerate the turn, thats the only way i know how to describe it. anyway, its all good now. I love this bike.
