Ken, By chance do you have any Pics of the 5th Gen. Ver. 2.0? I like the idea of lower profile, and thicker metal? Mine kind of shimmys, but not enough to worry about.

interested in 6th gen.... not sure yet as I currently have the ventura pack, but I hate having to lug it with me anytime I leave the bike so I am considering other options.
I love the quality and price of it, but am contemplating how to set up something that sits lower over the tail and then could be removed in order to remove the seat.
Probably more trouble than it is worth; I have enought "to do" items already. Will probably just buy what's available and spend my time on other things.
Do you still have different height options available? (The lower the better for me)
- only one height available, allows seat and cowl to be removed while Rack is installed on Grab handles. - Never had different height options on this one.
5Th Gen Racks:
- I will post some pics of the New ones. They are thicker, and about 1" lower over the back seat. Seat can still be removed while installed. Cowl must be modified if you want to keep it installed with a solo rack installed - this one mounts to the grab handles mounting location - under the seat.
I don't plan to build any changes into the 6Th gen rack (lowering it so that the seat can't be removed) as I think that most people still want to be able to access under the seat easily. If I got 20 people sign up and forward the funds for a "low as you can go" rack - then I would do it - but I don't think thats going to happen.

the Givi part is too high and too far back. I think i will just bolt the givi mounting plate to my back seat.
You could take a couple pieces of flat steel and bend them to attach to the side plates. The two mounting holes you can see in the pics above would work. Then mount up a Givi mounting plate to the two steel pieces crossing over your seat.
Gen4 made or considered? I would think more then me may have interest. Not sure if I would get one though with my love of the Corbin Smuggler as seen on this page that would possibly need to be modified to allow it to be used. http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/650781/

I don't see why you couldn't use both together. You would just need a longer bolt as there would be no clearance issues ....
Let me just say that doing business with Ken is a pleasure and NOBODY should be worried. I'm not sure there is a more stand up guy here on VFRD..of course coming from a skumbag like me, that's not saying much! He will make sure you are totally taken care of. You will not have to worry about his trustworthiness.
As for the rack, I have one on my 5th gen and it is great. I have a big old Givi mounted back there and it is SOOOOOOO convenient for a long trip. I took mine on a 8 day 3600 mile blast last spring with NO ISSUES. It sure is nice to have a weather proof, quick access spot for things like cameras and maps.
+1 on the quality & craftsmanship of Ken's work. He builds top notch accessories. As for Customer Service, He is the Best. My first one he shipped never arrived. So he shipped a second one right away (that one arrived without incident). I absolutely Love my rack. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Thanks Ken. George.
Thanks for the good words folks - it is nice to hear something positive right about now. I'm so tired of the doom and gloom out there - its kinda strange to hear good words!
Looks like the 6th Gen Solo Rack is getting the votes for another build - I'll need to wait for a few more to jump in on the bandwagon - I need to make 20 to get the pricing right and I figure if I get 10 or 12 folks "sign up" with interest - the others will sell I'm sure.
Here's a couple shots of the revised 5th Gen Rack - its about 3/8" thick, and weighs probably twice what the first version weighed. Its also 1" lower over the tail cowl.
I figure I will use come collars or tubes with long bolts so the givi plate will be solid mounted to the seat base and will not squish or bounce with the atomic seat foam.
As soon as I resigned myself to use ken's rack, I realized it just wont work.

Ditto everything said by Lobster. I have one on my '98 Viffer and love it. Another plus is its height (I have the original height version); you can stuff a soft bag under it for additional cargo space.
