Seat Cowl

Hi, have a 2007 VFR RWB, usually leave the cowl on when riding, do any of you that have a sixth generation VFR also ride with the cowl on and if so does it leave markings from rubbing the plastic?

Mine left two small rub marks in the rear corners...I leave it on most of the time also.

Yes. I put a couple of small pieces of the 3M clear material on there to keep it from getting worse. Most of the time I ride with the cowl on.

Yes same here. The dealer even replaced the plastics once and put some foam pads on the bottom the the cover. Still scratched again. Just dealing with it now.

Mine have marks as well. What marks do the grab rails make?

6th gen. standard, no extra charge.

mine doesn't leave a mark from rubbing, but from being pressed up against there constantly. Doesn't bother me one bit.

The asphalt gets marked up pretty easily. Ignore the dust.

I was smart enough to leave my cowl on and put a Corbin ® Tail Bag on top of it. Then bungee cord the bag down REALLY TIGHT. THEN RODE 900 MILES. What happens when I take off the cowl after getting home? Oh wow! yellowish plastic underneath all that nice shiny paint! I've since covered it up with black tape, looks fine now. BUT NEVER APPLY PRESSURE TO THE COWL WHILE IT'S IN PLACE...

My 02 doesn't have any seat cowl marks but then the first cover had broken tabs when I bought it and the 2nd one sits on top of the first one since I always ride with the girl or a backpack and I have a Sargent seat. :rolleyes:

I have the cowl on always. Yep, rub marks present on the tail fairing underneath the back edge of the cowl. I just learned to live with it. :dry:

You are a bigger person than me! Pay X amount of dollars for a brand new bike and use the cowl and in return it leaves marks that can not be taken out, sounds like a crock of s*** if you ask me.

I apprciate the heads up! I have not noticed this but now that I have been warned, I will try to come up with a solution. If it works, I'll let you know. I took my hand rails off the second week after I bought my bike since I was told they can have a similiar effect. Thanks, JD

Yes......my seat cowl has made a nice long rub mark across the tail section. But you dont see it with the cowl cover in place so it does not bother me.

Since a Wave Runner two-up plunge at Lake Mojave a couple summers back, no. I don't think she will ever be back on. :unsure:

As for the rub marks, it sucks, I know. I don't know whether mine were influenced by the tank bra (seat is pushed back slightly?), or just bad fitment from the factory. Relatively speaking, when compared with the 4th gen tail section (prone to cracking), I would rather have rub marks instead.
