Geez, the bikes done well for the last fifteen or so thousand miles. Now, as of the last two days and at 45k miles, when it's hot and I turn it off for five minutes or so then go to restart it the dash goes dead for a second then the starter engages and the bike starts. The dash information is wiped out and I have to reset the clock. I haven't pulled the fairings yet but thought I'd start by asking for advice.
Hope It's Not A Repost

1. check voltage on battery....could be getting low and when you crank it drags it low, wipes out dash and barely starts.
2. listen for "buzz" noise behind dash....perhaps a short/harness issue?
3. check blue connector on left side behind fairing....my be having a grounding issue.
my three best guesses.

Blue connector or ground. Ck. the 30 amp fuse under the seat. Did you have the recall done.
Do a search, tons of info.

Thanks both of you.
Soichiro, first I upgraded the grounds myself then later had the factory upgrade done just because it was free and factory certified. I wouldn't do it again since my upgrade seemed to work fine and it took a month to get all the rattles out after the dealership installed the new wiring harnesses. That's why I'm upset now. I thought we were beyond all that. We may be, in fact I'm sure we are, but having yet another electrical problem with the first Honda I've owned since Iwas a kid is really irritating.
Turtlecreek, the blue connector looks fine as does all the attendant wiring (I might have torched the bike if it didn't). I don't hear any zzzzt or have any other indication of a short. Everything that should be is infinite resistance to ground is and voltage is consistent. The battery read 12.1 so you may be on to something. I put a charger on it and will see if that helps.
Thanks again.

the battery is around 4 years old if it is original. I think TC may have it with that
12.1vdc is low. Probably could have it load tested and it would fail. If it does hold a charge, i'd take a look at charging voltage... start engine with high beams and check your voltages. should see well over 13.
Some charging issues show up only when hot... so keep that in mind.
Although like I said before, i'm betting it is time for a new battery.
