Hi Folks,

I initially posted in a VFRWorld forum my first cut at a mod'd exhaust system. Since then, I've 'colorized' the exhaust :^). So, I've attached a couple of pix of my 'creation' here. I have yet to find someone local to build up a solid pipe from cat to can. Also, I need to make a more professional hanger for the can.

With the stock exhaust removed, I have shaved 14 lbs of weight. I also have room for a dual bottle dry nitrous kit with the 'large' bottles, mounted where the stock cans were. This should be good for the occasional adrenaline rush fix ;^).

Thanx for reading,

hint: take off the passenger pegs and grab handles for an additional 2 lb savings and cleans up the rear, would highlight the exhaust  more for you...

Any chance to see a better picture of the exhaust ? Can't see too much with the pics you posted.

I never did see the point in riding my bike with both the passenger footpegs, and passenger grab handles in place - with the seat cover on? If you "pick up" a passenger, are they going to hold the cowl? (in which case, they still won't need the grab handles...)

Just messing with ya man. It's your bike. I think your old ceptor might have rubbed off on ya though and influenced this?

Thanx for the suggestion to remove the handles/rear pegs, I'll try that Shaynej.

Sebspeed, you're right, it's my ride ... but since you asked I'll add some explanation as to the 'why' :^). Have you ever ridden an '84 with the mufflers removed from the collector, or an '07 with the mufflers/tailpipe removed from cat? The sound is great. The V4 has a beautiful & unique roar ... my opinion. Problem is, this is also too loud for comfortable long rides, not to mention annoying law enforcement & the general public. The can, not clear in the photo, is a Supertrapp that came with 12 plates. This gives me a compromise between too loud & getting some of that unique sound out, as well as lower weight. And no apparent change in performance. Also, I can have the stock system back on in approx. 20 mins for my long dist. rides & touring. At first, I mounted the ST directly to the cat. I liked the look but the exh. exiting the plates hit my foot, not pleasant after a few hours ride. And, it's fun to listen to folks talk about their $500 to >$1000 aftermarket exhaust upgrades knowing I've spent $150 (most, ~$145, for the ST) to get a sound I enjoy & a look I like that I can continue to work with :^).

Messing or not, I'd never suggest a passenger hold on to the rear seat cowl, have you seen how it's attached? When VTEC kicks in, the passenger and cowl are gone ;^).

just seems to clean it up a bit. Also liking the tank pads. Are they for the ST1300?

What VTEC kick are you referring to? I can't even feel that anymore. Get a PCIII, some O2 Elims, and Cozyes map - and you too will be grateful!

That's what the saddle bags are for!

Yes to the first, and no to the second(learned from the first time around).

This was a price point mod then?

There's a bunch of exhausts for the VTECs that sound great, and if you keep your eyes open you can get great deals on used sets. I love my Staintunes!

If you follow through on your future mods, this guy will surely approve...

Yeah, it's Part #62-0051SS or #62-0051HF for the VFR though, not the ST1300.

I agree though it does look nice. I have to get something like this as the leather patches inside my knees on my riding suit don't grip the VFR tank very well. Unfortunately, my suit was designed for taller bikes, like the GS. For me, having a good grip on the tank makes a huge difference in the energy expended to ride well.

has anyone actually put nitro on a VFR or other sport bike? Theoretically it's possible... The fuel mapping on a nitro'd VFR would be awful, but people have done weirder things.

I spent around $100 for this exhaust.
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/baileyrock/Nov.jpg

I Cut the cans off the stock S-pipe and mounted up some eBay specials that I got for $80 because the had some slight damage on the ends. No problem, I cut off all the damaged areas while reducing there length by 4-5".
I like the shorty look much better than most of the long aftermarket cans out there. Seb made these Ti sleeves that I used to replace the carbon fiber sleeves they came with!

I kept the passenger pegs and run with my cowl on.....most times when i get a passenger she will let me take the cowl off and out in on the shelf in the Garage. Easier than putting the pegs back on, plus I need a spot for the remote preload adjuster.

The Pre Load adj. relocates under the seat.

Just did mine.

Like it!

NOS systems have been used extensively on Busas (mainly for drag racing.) I once saw a V-Max that was running both a supercharger and nitrous. No joke.

Just last week on eBay there was a low mileage '06 VFR with a blown motor. I asked the guy what happened (i.e. how he blew the motor) and he said a friend of his installed an NOS system on his bike and it didn't go so well. IIRC, Cylinder #3 had no compression. My guess is he burned a hole through the piston as a result of leaving the nitrous on too long. I felt kind of bad for him.
