Yes, another tire thread :blink: .....but the Pirelli Diablo is new to me (2nd set) and after thinking PP's were the shiznit, the Diablo simply puts it to shame. I slapped on my second Cycle Gear bargain set for $189.00 and went for a scrub down. Man I forgot how nice these tires are when new.
SO THE REAL REASON FOR THE POST:
Has anyone used both the Diablo and the ROSSO that can compare the two from a semi sporting perspective? What I would like is to put a Pilot Road 2 on the bike for life, but find a tire that has the turn in and feel of the DIABLO and it being a Pirelli, thought maybe the ROSSO might be similar. If not that, any other tires that have the "DIABLO" feel? Please don't respond if you have never tried the DIABLO. I know there are a ton of nice tires out there. I am just looking for one that feels as similar to the DIABLO as possible. I really have not felt a front that gives confidence like it. Thanks.
I run a Rosso on the front, a diablo on the rear. I think the diablo might turn a little quicker I have used both on the front, mileage is going to be better with the diablo but not by much, both stick good.
The Diablo is hard to beat. I have been running the Diablo Corsa III on my CBR and nothing else I have ridden is as confidence inspiring. Once I wear out my current set of Pilot Powers on my VFR, I will mount a set of Corsa III's. They cost a bit more but they are worth it to me......fantastic levels of grip and they warm up super quick.
I have not tried the Rosso, but the original Diablo was my favorite tire for a long time. I don't think any standard sport tire I've run has provided me better feedback and confidence period, but I was avg. only 1800 miles from a rear and the front would loose it's profile at about 3/4 wear and to a point that it would start to feel like shitz. :( Best wet SS tire also, but I just could Not afford that replacement rate!
That's when I found the Pilot Power, it provided 95-98% of the Diablo positive feedback and grip and 92-95% of the wet grip and lasted 20% longer. Been happy every since! :fing02:
I regret installing the Diablos on my bike...I just do too much commuting. I liked the BT021s much better...close to 3x the wear on them. I will be keeping my eyes open for a deal as I need a new rear, with the front not terribly far behind.
I used to run the regular Diablo's, then switched to Pilot Power's and kept using them for the same reasons stated by Baileyrock. Nearly all the performance but with better mileage.
The Corsa III's are sport / track day tire and won't last like the Pilot Powers, but the grip level is superb and they warm up quickly. They do hurt the wallet at 325 bucks a set. I recently picked up a good deal for two rears and a front for 410 dollars.
Where's the love for Pirelli Diablo Stradas? I was running the regular Diablo supersports then switched to the Diablo Stradas. The mileage is great(~5k rear and almost ~9k front FYI: my usual load capacity is around 360 lbs). Dry grip is great and so is wet grip. They warm up fast, and are even good in cold weather (Proven in 35 degree Michigan winter riding).
Pirelli was suppose to release the new Pirelli Angel ST tire in March and it was to replace the Diablo Strada line. The new Angels are supposed to offer better wet and dry grip and larger contact patch area still with high mileage tread.

my understanding was old metzeler Z6 and strada were the same (or very similar) with my riding style, the Z6 just did not give me what I needed. More mileage, yes. Grip let go on me several times.
I've been through a few sets of Pirelli Diablo tires myself and feel your pain as well.
I've switched over to Corsa III's and Rossos. Both are great tires. The Rossos are the closest thing to diablos, but are (IMHO) a bit more smoother in transition while cornering and almost a softer ride. You wouldn't be disappointed with the Rosso.
If you really want to go all out, buy a set of Corsa III's and your bike will grip the road like no other. Great tire but the mileage you get isn't the greatest (~3k for me)

thanks. i didnt even think about corsa IIIs. i dont need both front and rear. i am just looking for the front. i am sold on the PR2 rear. i can us pr2 front, but slow to turn in. PP front works well too. just not quite the same as a Diablo. i am just hard headed and want to find the "perfect" tire setup for me, the VFR and my riding style.
the diablo/front rear is marvelous, but mileage is REALLY weak as BR mentioned above. I guess it doesnt matter as they have discontinued them....
Corsa III, Rosso, with PR2's sounds like something to try.
I think most riders are looking for a good balance between performance (grip) and good mileage at a fair price. Thus the popularity of tires like Pilot Powers......which are really hard to beat for even the most spirited level of street riding. Sport touring tires like the Pirelli Strada will give better mileage but do trade off a bit of traction. Great tires for someone who is not looking for that last bit of corner speed, but still want to have some fun in the twisties and get better mileage from their tires.
The reason I like the Corsa III is cornering traction.......more than any tire I have ridden on the street. The last thing I want is to run out of traction. Not because I ride at the limit on the street, but because it can save your bacon. Corsa III's stick like crazy, and provide good feel and feedback from the front. The downside is that they do wear more quickly and they are a bit more expensive than most street / sport tires. So for those looking to stretch their tire dollar the Corsa III is not going to be at the top of the list. I had a nasty crash last year (my fault......not the tires) and do not want to go through that again. Painful and expensive. So for me the extra cost of running a tire like the Corsa III is money well spent. Others may see this as a waste of money.
I have even run them on the track at a pretty agressive pace and they never failed me yet.
One of the best things to happen to motorcycling in the last few years is the rapid improvement in tire performance. There a lot of choices out there.....and a lot of great tires.
