Relocating The Abs Rear Preload Adjustment

Hey, there's a member on here that has an ABS 6th gen and wants to remove the rear pegs (actually, he already did). He ended up removing the knob and putting it under the seat. He mentioned he hopes he doesn't damage it when riding. Has anyone else on here found a solution for relocation the rear preload adjustment knob so that you can take off the passenger pegs? I just wanted to see if there's a more effective solution than just tucking it under the seat...

Just looking to help him and any others out there with a similiar situation.

I was going to look into making a bracket that would allow you to re-mount the adjuster when you remove the rear pegs but I haven't done it just yet. I'll keep you posted

I too removed my passenger pegs and relocated the preload adjuster under the seat. All I had to do to make it fit under the seat was to remove the knob (be sure to catch the little clicker ball and spring) and carefully rethread the tubing to avoid any kinks or potential chafing spots.I wrapped the cylinder, sans adjusting knob, in a bit of foam and slipped it under the rubber tiedown strap thats there under the right hand side of the seat. I used a zip tie to secure the tubing and make things neat. It's a perfect fit and really cleans things up.

Same as above and has been like that for 20k miles, with no sign of problems.

if you did the, "cut off the lower part, of the peg, mod", such as Sebspeed, you could do something like this.

Hey, Riv - thanks for the thought & the Pic's. Good Idea. FYI - mine's been under the seat, too, With the adjm. knob still on. Seems to have no adverse effects in 14K+ miles. Also, no foam or other security/protection features, which might not be a bad idea, but hasn't seemed to cause any issues at all.

With the knob off you just don't adjust it?

You could put it on your hugger, that's where the new CBR's have them, I think...

I did the mod as everyone said and placed the load adjuster under the seat. Yes and when I took the knob off this little ball bearing shot across my garage floor (I did find it). With no passenger/luggage requirements, there's really no need to adjust it. I did set the sag first.

Funny thing I noticed: after taking off the adjuster that Honda put some nice labels and graduation marks on the outside of the cylinder -- but they're completely hidden when the adjuster is in the factory installed position, behind the plastic shroud.

I just bolted mine back on using one of the holes for the passenger pegs. Painted to bolt black and everything blends in...

Can someone take a couple photos of what it looks like under the seat and where they routed the line up in there?

Speaking of removing rear footpegs, anyone found a good idea to fill up the holes? I searched for rubber plugs without success, I tried painting zinc coated bolts black with the anticipated result that paint didn't adhere properly..

I just painted a couple bolts and washers black for mine and haven't had any problems. :rolleyes:

The adjuster itself is wrapped in white foam with 2 black zipties. You can trace back fromj there to see how the hose is routed.
