For Those Of You Running Or Thinking Of Pilot Road 2 Tires -

I just remembered that I wanted to post this - when I bought my PR2 rear from DennisKirk.com, they had two different 180 size rear tires.

There is a difference between the two; if you read the fine print, you'll see that one of them is made to fit a large BMW as an OEM tire. That particular tire has a stiffer sidewall and is intended for larger/heavier bikes than the VFR.

If you buy this tire instead of the "regular" one, there is a chance that you'll have less road feel combined with a bumpier ride due to the stiffer sidewall.

Read and/or ask before you buy! :cool:

Actually, most tires are made in several different variants to satisfy OEM requirements.

IIRC, there were about 6 different Bridgestone BT020 rear tires in the 180-55/17 size.


Front tires are the same deal, there's often several that specify OEM fitment on one bike or another.

Carcass construction is the difference here, so steer clear of the OEM fitment spec tires unless they actually pertain to your bike, otherwise get the generic fitment breed of that particular tire.

I usually stayed clear of tyres made for another bike(mostly because I didn't know what the difference was, unless stated)......... Since ya'll brought it up, I wonder if my 230lbs. might work with the beemer tyre better. Re; "Fat ass"?........ Monk

Check the weight of the spec'd beemer vs. the weight of the VFR... I'd still go for the road feel though!

Generic ones are usually a little cheaper then the bike specific tires as well.........at least that is what I've seen.

Anyone running a Pilot Road 2 170/60 on a 4th gen? I think it looks a little pinched... maybe I should have used a 160/60.

That's a 4.5" wheel, no? If so, it should have a 160 tire.

No, it's a 5" 4th Gen wheel with a 170/60 Pilot Road 2ct.

I put the Road Attack "C" fitment for BMW on my VFR several months ago.
They felt good for just tooling around on and I was hoping to get high milage out of them...
Not.
This week I have been doing about 200 aggressive miles each day.
That has totally thrashed the tires.
I will be lucky to get 2K out of them.
Once they heat up they get pretty squirely.
