Well. I may have to sell my much loved VFR.. My business is sucking wind like a hoover on 11...


I'm depressed... I love my VFR...

Only light.... I could use it as an excuse to buy a new one if they ever make one.... If the economy ever rebounds...

lost my job and had to sell my SHawk...but now I have a VFR

things will get better and you can always get another one when you're in a better place

Hang in there. Hopefully you can come up with the means to hold onto your beloved VFR. The economy will rebound- it's just a matter of time. It's a cyclical thing. I am awaiting the outcome of my employment position within the next few weeks. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to shed a VFR in the process.

If you ask me, now is the time to really put it to good use.
Use it as anti-depressant.

Unless your SO is eating you up for having too many toys... Been there too. :dry:

Go for a ride, clear your head, stop someplace where you like to come and think and come up with a way to turn things around.

Well.. I am a BMW whore.. :beer: . And I am going to have to sell them too... I will keep my 95 M3 daily driver 200k and counting!
95M3 turbo, 400ish WHP
87 535is turbo(second owner 16years)
88M3 GT2 race car, apart for a repaint
89 325ic, in paint booth.

Basically I am selling ALL the toys to keep the doors open... Sucks. The VFR right now is the easiest to sell. sniff, sniff.

I'll know by Friday if it HAS to go... Oh well Guess I can go for one more ride before I sell it.

Not that you want to hear this right now, but nice collection! Love the original M3's, thought a few times about getting one but poor $/value ratio. Was going to build a clone from 325 w/o the expensive m3 motor. But lots of.....coulda, woulda, but never did!

Hopefully things will turn around for you and you can start the collection over again........acquiring is half the fun.

Well.. The dollar/value ratio of a 88-91 M3 is getting crazy. 95-99 is about at the bottom...Except a 95M3 Lightweight.. HOLY CRAP are they High dollar!!!

A RUFF 88-91 E30M3 runs 8-10k.. DECENT one 10-15k with 150k on it, more or less, MINT go ahead and plan on spending 20k+...low mile and MINT 25K+ and creaping north... I wish I had all those I owned over the years back...

I have a 91M3 to restore (le crispy)with 60K on it I expect it to be worth north of 25k when i get time to restore it.


Oh well, wave bye, bye, to most of my collected toys... I would rather sell most of the BMW's off and keep my VFR :wub:

I own a bicycle shop and specialize in mid to high end road, and tri bikes, and custom fitting services. I sell a few cruisers and mountain bikes but primairly road/tri stuff. One man shop with two part timers who help one tuesday, one half a day saturday.. My goal is to NOT have employee's.. Or a large shop. We had to close our business early this year. Not fun. It was a hard choice, but the right one. Anyway, there was no way I was going to give up the VFR. It's great therapy. I would go nuts without a motorcycle, especially this one. Hang in there and good luck.

Yeah, the wife is hard on my arss about the shop. The problem I have is the building and land. Family owned, Dad and I, if I close the business down the crap reverts to residential if it stays empty more than 30 days.. The joys of getting annexed!!! Flush commercial property down the drain... The building would take a ton to make into a house.

I'll know tomorrow what happens... My wife does not really want me to sell the VFR. :) She knows it means alot to me and how long I wanted one.

Sad thing is I have not ridden it for two weeks since I was worried about having to sell it... I think thats been the worst part....Just looking at it in my Garage makes me depressed...

Just keep a few parts in there and have a "web" business. You can even start a new business name to hold the property. No one says you have to make money to have a business. Just ask GM.

The toys will come and go. Even if you have to let the bike go, in a few years you can start the sojourn to find its twin. It'll mean that much more to you.

As far as web businesses, they're tough. Especially anything new as most manufacturers have a big no web sales clause. Parts and used sales seem to be good though. Maybe start scanning CL and find quality bikes selling cheap or need a little TLC. My last 4 bikes have all been used and I'd rather buy a nice high end bike used but looked over by a shop then a new, lower-end bike, or a bike from Joe Public. But most bike shops only push new, even though I'd wager less than 30% ever get significant use out of them.

I may be selling mine soon. I recently lost 2/3 of my business/income in one day. Wife said to wait (gotta love her) to see if things turn around. Being that mine is a 5th Gen bike, I wouldn't get much anyway.

Bicycles are my true love and what I would want to make my living off of (current count: nine bicycles and four motorcycles). Unfortunately, it is a labor of love, not high profits. Try to infuse more mountain bikes and commuter rigs, maybe look at the singlespeed/fixie thing to boost your income. I work in auto service and we are trying things we never would have imagined two years ago to boost traffic...
Please understand that I am not in any way telling how to run your business, just throwing out some ideas so you can keep the toys.

If our finances got shakey there are several items in our house/garage I'd sell before my VFR. Most things can be replaced, but I've put blood and sweat into my beloved motorcycle - plus it's one of the few material things that mean a lot to me - so it stays unless things got really bad.

I have my fingers crossed for you. I hate the thought of you or any one of us having to sell our toys to offset this crappy economy. My wife's company had a lay-off a few months back and yesterday, they announced another one. Her position is secure but in the company folds...? My company is in a consolidation mode and the plant I work in is being 'forced' to make room for another plant in the area. Most of the people in our plant have less time with the company so we are pretty nervous. I honestly feel several companies are using this down turn as an excuse to reduce people and property footprints. Not all companies but several. Good luck to all of us, JD

I went from employee to independent contractor 2 months ago also.
Not by choice. Income taking a beating, but I'm not starving.
I don't even want to think about selling either of my bikes, or my truck.
At least they're paid for. Guess it will be quite a while before I think about trading to newer vehicles though. :dry:

Regulations are different in every state, but that does not sound right to me. The commercial use is a pre-existing non-conforming use. The state/town cannot force a change of use even if they change\changed the zone that its in without legal\financial ramifications. If push comes to shove I would retain a reputable licensed professional engineer and an attorney familiar with local zoning regs (both of whom are "known" by the appropriate local zoning/planning board) and have a consent agreement drawn up. That should enable you to use the property as a business and/or sell the property with that right.

Also, before you sell the bike, consider a home equity loan. You will get much more breathing room money, and the rates right now are outstanding...

In Mississippi cities have more say than state when it comes to local business. My business is out of the way not on the beaten track. You have to WANT to come see me which is how I want it. I do almost zero kids bikes, they just are not worth the headache.

Yeah I missed two bank appointments friday due to being busy, home and Business... Got here 9:30 left at 7:30 no break in between minus two bananas! Slows down in November-March.

Update:

After working from 9:45am until 7:45pm, non stop, and missing two bank appointments on Friday. I managed to go to the banks on Monday. And sat down with the wife to discuss my business and finances.

She told me to hold on to the VFR until we got our refinacing done. I was ready to sell it to help our finaces. She knows how long I have wanted a VFR and I am not getting any younger, not that I am really old at 41 (body...mind is about 16). And I am fairly anal about when/where/how I ride.

She has been the only one in my extended family who has told me to try to hold onto it. I was shocked she has been so anti sell.

So I am going to try to hold onto her for another month to see if life stabilizes.

I went for a ride sunday night after looking at "Dasiy" the VFR for the last three weeks thinking how hard it was to sell her. It was a good ride.
