Where To Get Asphalt Black Paint?

I had the opportunity to pick up OEM luggage for my '04 VFR. The bags are in excellent condition. I bought them with the realistic expectation to re-paint and match the Asphalt Black on my '04. They are presently in the '07 Candy Dark Red color (nice color), but they need a treatment of the ol' flat black to make them complete. Timmy knows what I mean. :beer:

I looked at ColorRite and called the dealer. To paint both pieces would require around a pint, but geez, between both the dealer and ColorRite, what they are selling is liquid gold! Dealer: $199 qt. (no pint); ColorRite: $126 pint. I called a local body shop I have done business with before, and also contacted two local automotive paint shops. None of them can come up with a match of paint code H-436 Asphalt Black.

If there is anybody who has any suggestions, I would like to hear them. I had a can of automotive trim satin black (a SEM product) in my garage. Sprayed on a sample piece of material it looks close, however, it is missing the subtle metallic component that is integrated into Honda's OEM color. If someone has an mixing code/formula for one of the more readily available paints (3M, PPG, DuPont, Sherwin Wiilliams), it would be greatly appreciated. I did manage to see a post here regarding a possible lead to Asphalt Black, but the formula never materialized.

Why can't all flat blacks be the same? :huh: Sheesh!

Bring a piece of the bodywork to a PPG autobody shop, they can scan it with a computer that will spit out a formula. (Prophet)

If you have a MATTOS paint shop in your area, they will do it too. (and if you find it, could you please tell me the code?)

The one local paint shop offered to scan my cowl piece, though he warned that matte finishes may throw off matching. We'll see. Using the power of the internets and Google search, I saw this post. So, going to R-M Paints (appears to be a European arm of a paint brand?), I searched for a formulation on "H-436 Asphalt Black": http://color-explorer.rmpaint.com.

No results. So I threw in a couple wildcards, and a formulation result for "NH-436M HONDA GUN POWDER BLACK MET MAT", which I'll assume to be the non-U.S. Honda equivalent to Asphalt Black. I told the paint shop of my findings, and they will try to use it to compare w/ results from a scan. So this might be good news.

If all goes well, I'll try painting this on my own. Time to dust off the paint gun.

paint is going to be expensive unless you want krylon or somthing like that.
