Its crunch time folks...I leave for my track day in B'ham in about 8 hrs. After getting a new stator and R/R and installing, my battery voltage was still ~12v even at 5k rpm. So I did the R/R wire upgrade via this thread: Talus's RR Wire Upgrade

The problem now is that the bike won't start. Turn the key and the dash lights up as normal, lights come on, etc...but no fuel pump. Thumb the starter and nothing but silence.

So here's what I've got...

From the R/R: 2 additional 12ga red wires run through fuses and straight to battery + terminal , 2 additional 12 ga green wires run to grounding point on frame, 16 ga black wire connected directly to monitor wire and run through fuse to battery + terminal. The RR 6 pin connector is hooked up to wiring harness like normal minus the monitor wire (direct to battery)

From battery, 12 ga red wire through 30 AMP fuse to R/W wire on main harness. Looking at the wiring diagram, it appears that this R/W wire runs to the harness side of the R/R 6 pin connector, ties in with the 2 R/W output wires from the RR and then goes to the ENGINE STOP RELAY.

It also appears from the wiring diagram that the W/BL monitor wire goes through a fuse box and to the ENGINE STOP/STARTER SWITCH and to the BANK ANGLE SENSOR.

I thought I read that you can't leave the monitor wire connected through the R/R 6 pin connector and run a monitor wire directly to battery at the same time. Is this correct?

So what should I look at? I've triple checked all connections. Everything seems tight. I'm at a loss, tired, and really frustrated!! HEEELLLPPP!!

Check the kill switch?

That was the first thing I tried. Switch is in the run position.

Send a PM to Tightwad, I am just about useless when it comes to electrical work...

True. The all-black monitor wire from the R/R can be connected straight to the battery + terminal, but then the White/Black in the harness wire must be left disconnected.

Just checked voltage on the R/W that runs from the battery, through the main 30A fuse and into the big blue connector on the left side. 12.78v on both sides of connector.

Tried reconnecting the monitor wire back up to the factory harness and that did nothing.

I'm out of ideas.

Fuel pump relay?

Clean the kill switch contacts?

Found the culprit! 10A mini fuse for starter. Replaced it and bike still won't put out more than 12v!!! Ughhh...I'm beginning to think Electrosport sold me a faulty Stator. I think I see a Rick's stator via Tightwad in the near future. And I guess I'll be taking the wife's naked SV650 to the track day. I'm gonna miss the VFR's windscreen tomorrow.

Thanks for the help y'all.

If you're trailering to the track and have a fully charged battery, you should be OK for the day but unplugging all lights (have to anyway right?) and avoid running the fan. Maybe even bump starting it with someones help instead of using the starter motor if the reading gets too low towards the end of the day. Many race bikes run a total loss electrical system. A cheap walmart/autoparts backup battery would be more expense but peace of mind.

Sorry your still experiencing problems, but like I said in the first thread you should be able to run off a fully charged battery for 20 min. sessions ( I would think) if you charge between each session, but if you have a back up bike I guess it's a better idea.

Have fun at barber!

Have big fun at the track and don't be thinking about this electrical problem at all while doing it!!
The VFRD gang will surely be ready to help you when you get back.

It is easy enough to check. Disconnect it from the R/R and check voltage on the 3 wires from the stator.

The Iron Butt rule to never change anything within weeks of taking a big trip also applies for a trackday. Glad you found the culprit. I would personally just buy an extra battery or bring a charger with and not worry about it. You may even be getting some charge from your system, enough to run a trackday. BUT you also don't want to ride while worried, so it's a toss-up. A trackday on an SV650 would certainly be fun, too. :fing02: !

As far as diagnosing your problem, I'd check everything with a multimeter and see where you get a zero reading.

Yeah, I checked that...I was only getting 20 or so vac at 5k rpm.

The thought of taking the VFR and just running as a total loss system did cross my mind. I even have a spare battery. But this is my first trackday, I'll already be nervous and stuff, so I don't want something else to deal with or worry about. Sucks though 'cuz I just mounted nice sticky Diablo's and while the VFR's stock suspension is nothing to shout about, the stock boingers on the SV are even worse. Oh well...I'll have a better chance of getting my knee down with the SV anyway!

Yea, your stator is dead.

You would have 0 issues running total loss at a track day as long as you unplug the lights, just plug in a tender overnight and between sessions. I rode mine that way for several hundred miles when my R/R blew up on a trip, I just bump started it and kept the headlights off.
