What is the top speed on a stock 02 - 07 VFR? I have hit 150 m.p.h. @ 10K r.p.m. Will it go any faster?

It can beat a Gixer with the right rider, it also cannot with the right rider.
Concentrate on what it needs to be to you and it will be, just dont expect to race it.

Well I'm sure with full mods and a 90lb rider with a tail wind going down hill under a full solar eclipse you could hit 160..... One of my friends on a 2001 VFR was following a R1 on the freeway doing 166. He only was able to do this because he was drafting the R1 other wise there is no way.

The limitations on a VFR seem to vary. Redo front end and add a rear shock,add Toro charger,change gearing.........
But the bottom line is it's still a portly bike.Ride it and love it.

My KTM Duke II will do 103 mph topped out in 5th gear if I'm down in a good road racing/flat track tuck with one hand on the throttle and my left hand on the left fork tube.
To me it's more fun to ride a 53 hp motorcycle at 85% of what it will do than ride a 150 hp motorcycle at 50% of what it will do.

Not that I'm into crazy "Go directly to jail, do not pass go" speed, but this thread does bring up an interesting question.
Most 6th gen VFR magazine reviews/comparos say the bike's top speed is 155 mph. Is that actual speed or indicated speed? Because indicated 155 mph is more likely to be 140-143 actual mph due to the usual 8-10% speedometer error.
Of course, this question doesn't apply just to VFRs. It seems like many bikes have "optimistic" speedos. So when most mags say the 'Busa tops out at 186 mph, is that really 186 mph, or is that 186 indicated and more like 170 and change in actual speed? Just curious, since I never plan to find out for myself.
BTW, I might have seen 150 on my '04's speedometer once. Or twice. ;) Not planning to do it again anytime soon. It's just too risky IMO, both physically and for my bank account, too!

Nah, that's a trick us road racers from the '70's used. Back when we wore our leathers on the outside of our boots.
I went really, really, really fast on the VFR on a loonngg straight in Eastern Washington one time.

That's about what I've seen too. I think the last Cycle World test against the F800 had it about 150-155ish. Most magazines will use test equipment (not the bikes speedo) and usually average their findings from two directions to get the results.
I hit around 120-130ish (on the speedo) once with mine and I have no interest in going back there. With helibars it feels like I'd become a kite at anything faster. These bikes are definitely not about top speed, but this is not a bad thing. They are brilliant at everything else. Personally, an occasional squirt to 100 mph once in a while is plenty for me.

150 - 160 indicated is the most I've seen. On a special unnamed closed course test track. :rolleyes:

Not sure about the '07, but the fastest I've been on my '98 is and indicated (about) 157. My Zumo 550 stated 149, which I'm sure is more accurate than the speedo. And I couldn't agree more with one of the posts about rider ability and the VFR. I can run circles around both of my brothers in the twisties on the VFR, with on bother on his ZX10-R and the other on his RC-51... Then again, I've had a LOT more track time than they have, too. Not on the VFR, but on my old bike. The VFR has been to the track one time, with my oldest brother (ZX10-R) and I lapped him in the first session! That fact absolutely kills him!!! Down over 50 HP and weighing about 100+ more pounds, and I took him to school!! (anyone with brothers will understand the significance of these bragging rights!!!) So the VFR is a plenty capable bike in the hands of the right rider. And there's not way in hell that either of my brothers are ever going to ride to Daytona Bike Week as comfortably as I did on the VFR!! It's just a tough all-round bike to beat!

Remove the restriction and I bet you would quickly find that that would not be their top speed indicated or actual. ;)
Well it may just be me but it all feels the same once you get above 90mph. Other than the fact every little bump is amplified and can scare the hell out of you.
But needless to say fast enough. I look at the top speeds of the GSXR's and CBR's (600, 1000cc) bikes and even though they may be faster that is all. Not sure about the '07, but the fastest I've been on my '98 is and indicated (about) 157. My Zumo 550 stated 149, which I'm sure is more accurate than the speedo.
My 6th Gen was up to 153 mph on GPS while the speedo (Dream meter I call it) said about 168 mph. Flat out slight downhill grade... tail wind, 240lbs driver, 1/2 tank of fuel, tucked under the paint (box stock with Avon Storm Tires). This was on a secluded divided highway in Northern Ontario... :491:

Couldn't agree more here, I ride with a few VERY aggressive riders on Litre Bikes (CBR, GSXR, ZX) There are only a few times where I can't keep up and I would say that's more my style of riding (and that little voice that says "stupid, don't even think about doing that at that speed" rather than the bike itself...
It more than doubles ANY legalspeed posted here in Canada and a straight away on a track generally isn't long enough for you to be at that speed (or if so for that long anyway) - just remember curiosity killed the cat... but 150-155mph is about the best "real speed" you'll see but never tell your friends that - always use the Dream meter! I couldn�t agree more with (KnoxVFR) First I have a Speedo healer on my bike and I'm 1 tooth up in the rear. (helps 6 gear pull a lot) The Speedo healer was dialed in on a dyno at 100 mph, it's with in 1 mph at low or high speed. In 6th gear at 11,500 she runs 146mph. The error on a stock speedo gets worse the faster you go. I frequent the mountains 2 to 4 times a year and do track days 2 to 3 times a year and take 1000's and 600's to school all the time. Rider skill is everything! I know how fast my bike is only because I wanted to know and found as safe a place I could to run it out. But the truth is on a racetrack the fastest bike seldom is the winner. The guy clocking the fastest straight away speed is usually trying to make for cutting a bad turn, which usually means he's too hot into the next turn too. The old saying slow down to go-fast is very true. Setting up your turns, slow in, fast out and by smooth on the throttle.
