So I took a scenic 300+ mile trip to Mt. Washington in N.H. today with 6 other riders. Started out decent, a little overcast and 60 degrees. Encountered a few light showers on the way over, but nothing serious. When we got there, they had closed the mountain due to rain and reported hail in mid June! Half the group backed out at that point, but the rest of us proceeded on. Conditions up there are always unpredictable, so we waited it out and they let us go up when it calmed down. The further I went, the worse the visibility. By the time I got to the top, the fog was so thick I could barely see my nose in front of my face. My outside temp display read 39 degrees! Definitely gave the Viffer a workout today for sure. Unfortunately it rained on the whole ride home, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Luckily I had my rainsuit with me so it could have been worse.....
For those who are interested, I am happy to report my Pilot Road 2's where fantastic in the rain - the bike felt glued to the road despite the conditions....

Good to know. I have been before, so I know the view is indeed amazing. Just wasn't today.... funny, it was so foggy I could barely find the buildings this time!
I will be doing that same climb next weekend. Coming in on the Kancamagus Highway, up and back to Mt Washington and then a run through the White Mountains on 302 to get turned around for the ride back home.

Thanks for the #. It's an annual rain or shine trip, so we'd have gone regardless. I was the lone VFR. We had a couple of Harleys, an old goldwing, a CBR600RR, and a KLR 650 and a DR650 in our convoy. Pretty diverse group! Definitely one of the best trips of the year, despite the weather. Can't wait till next year!
I went up there a few Septembers ago. It was beautiful at the bottom but 3/4 of the way up it turned to fog. It got so bad that you couldn't see a bike 10 feet in front of you. I mean, no out line what so ever. One buddy decided he had enough and just stopped. We ventured upward by watching the shoulder to see where the road went. No guard rails so one missed step and you're bouncing a long way down. The worst part was, you'd be rolling along when out of the fog, a tour van would suddenly pop in to view.
It is a great ride up there. I miss the time I lived up there having such great rides right outside the backdoor. Lived in Milford for five years. Glad everyone got home safe. Riding in the rain is not the best especially when you do not have a rain suit.
We've been to Mt. Washington a couple of times. Took the Cog Railroad the first time. Clear at the top, amazing view. The second time we drove (2002 Trail Blazer) in July of 2006. The older I get, the less I like heights! We made it nearly to the top (above the tree line), and we were so freaked out, we turned around and headed back down. The Trail Blazer seemed like it was 20 feet wide and with no guard rail, it got a little uncomfortable. :ohmy:
Good write-up. Sitting here watching the news and seeing all the hail that New Jersey got yesterday, you were pretty lucky. Glad you made it okay and thanks for the report on the PR2s. :fing02:

Sorry, brought the camera but the rain kept me from using it. Nothing to see up top anyway, except for fog. A couple of the other guys took some on the way shots, but that's about it.
