Occassional Stalling When Coming To A Stop

Whats up Guys and Gals?

So i have an 03 vfr800, has just over 5k miles now.. On a few occassions now, while coming to a stop in traffic it has stalled. This is under normal driving conditions, throttling down and downshifting.

I've also noticed that when the bike is "hot" or up to temp its takes a second or two to start.. however it has always started, but seem like it has an extended crank..


Does anyone have any info on these conditions?

Most commonly it is related to a low idle setting which should be adjusted and followed up with a syncronization of the starter valves. Balancing the starter valves should give you a smoother idle.

so is this a simple process, or something I would bring to a dealer for?

If idle is set right, it could be your battery. My 02 would stall occasionally when coming to a stop, but fire right back up. Replaced my battery and no more stalling. :blush:

you can borrow my ladder-manometer to sync your valves if you want :happy:

so are you recommending adjusting my idle up slightly, then having the starter valves syncronized?

Bump the idle speed up first. That should solve the problem. I had the same issue and idle was set at around 1100 rpm. Adjusted it to 1400 and it never stalled again.

Ok, hopefully thats my problem because my idle is pretty darn low, I want to say somewhere between 1000-1200 tops. But I'll have to watch it closer.. Im going to bump the idle, however should i still get the starter valves check afterwords?

I had the exact problem on my '03, 21,000 km on it now - I just turned up the idle slighty to 1300 rpm, no issues since, but my battery is suspect and needs to be changed.
