After coming from a GSXR1000 to a VFR, ive been contimplating going back to a big supersports bike, after a year on a 2007 VFR ive done many modifications to it which many of you have seen, the bike is well sorted and really does ride now like it should have from the start, anyway knowing how good the vfr is now I wasnt going to get shot of it or strip and sell all the goodies till I was sure that I could live with another real sports bike, after all it would take forever and cost another fortune to get it all again.
Last Saturday I went out and bought myself a 2006 GSXR1000 K6 model, the same as I had before, and although the power is so much more and the bike is like a missile its just not as nice to ride, it seems so focussed on just going fast and the whole utility and the comfort of the vfr is missing, its great at blasting along and round corners its a hoot, but it aint no VFR so my baby is still sitting in the garage all safe and sound and the Gixxer is back up for sale.
The moral of the storey is, have a real close look at what youve got and what it can do before you change it

I know exactly how you feel. I have an RC and a 954 and they are both a hoot to ride but after running around on them for a while I get on one of the VFRs and ask myself why I have the others!
Last night, my wife OK'ed the purchase of the 7th gen when it gets here. She asked what I would do with the yellow peril. I said "I will never sell that thing. Ever. Ever. I'd drain the gas and put it in the corner of the basement before I'd sell it."
The point is that I have let lesser bikes go and I have missed them. I will not make the same mistake with this one. It would be a betrayal.
Heh heh, I also used to have a 06 GSX-R 1000. That engine is the most lovely thing on two wheels however...the bike is meant for one place, and that is out on the track. I know it might sound funny but I never felt as confident on the gixxer as I do my VFR. Crazy.
So you thought cheating on her was a good thing?
That riding a "hot one" would be more satisfying?
You sure she will take you back and not ditch you at the 1st opportunity?
I saw one of my brothers go through 4 different sport bikes, my other, older brother go through about the same number since I got my 4th gen in 1995....tmy younger brother eventually quit riding after breaking his arm real bad when he high sided his SRAD 750 off the Van Ness freeway ramp on his way home from work in SF, while my older brother is still playing WW2 despatch soldier on his Russian made BMW copy, after going through a few much more modern beemers (GS) in the last ten years........and after all these years the bike that I wake up to in my garage through all those years watching my kin explore different worlds in motorcyclinghad always been my 4th gen and it still makes me smile when I ride it.....I must be doing something right keeping the big old red horse....right???

That was punctuation - He just got off a GSX-R 1000. There was a period at the end of a sentence. Sort of like riding a GSX-R 1000. It all rushes by and then there is a stop point when you are done. VFR's allow for punctuation in between. Well said vfrobb!
Trading in your VFR for a GSXR1000 is kind of like cheating on your average looking but loyal wife, sure it feels good while you're doing it but when the rides over you have a feeling of being empty and incomplete. Fortunately bikes don't get jealous so it's okay to have a wife and a mistress and park them next to each other. I wish I could marry my motorcycle, not sure which one though, maybe both of them.
I see guys out on sport bikes doing th eone handed hip Im cool...reality... Dam my hands hurt I need to sit up position LOL... While I go by thinking...Man that looks like its not comfy... :cool:
Sure wish my tires would get here.. I seem to have worn both out on the VFR.....
I have not ridden any other bike but a VFR. I have sat on a few, but thats it. I have ridden a 6th gen VFR a few times and really like it. But for me and the cash I will just keep my 4th gen. It reliable, has more than enough power, handles great (like many have said.... upgrade the stock suspension!). and I think she looks more modern now with the upgrades. The total cost with bike and all the mods was cheaper than a used 2006 VFR.
But like a few have said, if you have the coin get both. and enjoy the ride!

thanks for the replys its good to know the thoughts of other like minded people, now the decission has been made Ive just been into the garage and given the vfr a quick wipe over for the ride tomorrow, and have got to say the gixxer does look fantastic !!!!!!!

I stole an older Gixxer from a friends' brother-in-law who barely knew how to ride a bicycle let alone a rocket. Sold it for a profit within two months. XLR8 is right, it belongs on a track. Or at least under a better rider than me. Scary fast that beast was...

Yeah, but that RC51 is one heck of neat sounding bike, heard one with Sato exhaust, the exhaust and the gear driven cams on a V twin, it sounds so good! Wish I had the chance to ride one but not yet. Anyway that RC is a neat bike!
Anyone who knows me knows I look at new bikes all the time. But none (or at least none in my price range) are as terrific an all-arounder as my VFR, esp. now that I've finally installed and am using the OEM hard bags.
And I am in no need for a faster bike. I already get in trouble on mine, as evidenced by the 'award' I got a couple weeks ago. :ohmy:
I'm sure the VFR will eventually go, but I think it'll be years from now. Meanwhile I'm riding this bike as often as possible and still putting mods into it. Suspension is next on the list. :fing02:

Ha!! I did the same thing years ago. Had a 99 VFR and totalled it. Then purchased an 01 RC51 and at about the 1 month point (and a few longer day rides) I knew I'd made a mistake. Sold the RC51 and purchased a new 02 VFR and felt right at home. If you can have only 1 bike and you're doing plenty of riding, then the VFR is hard to beat. Yes, many of us have learned this the hard (read expensive) way.
I'm with you guys. After riding VFRs only for the last 20 years I wonder what the rest of the world is like. May opt for a second bike eventually if the track day fever persist. But even then I'm looking at ways of raising the handle bars and making a pure sport a bit more user friendly if I do take the plunge. I just get tired of having multiple sets of tires in my garage and having to change them so often.
I'm going to jump in here as a minority in this thread it appears. I've got 3 bikes, an 06 F4i, and 06 1000RR, and an 07 VFR. If I had to get rid of one bike, it would be the VFR. It's just not as confidence inspiring to me in the corners as the other two and with the bags installed, trailer semi trucks can really shake things up sometimes.
Having said that, I have no intention of getting rid of any of them. I bought the VFR for, well, because I just really like the looks of the bike and the RWB paint scheme turns me on a little more than the red, which I almost bought one of a couple years back (left over 04 models). I thought I would be inclined to take the VFR on the long trips with the added advantage of the hard luggage. I gotta say, I'd just as soon take my 1000RR with soft luggage, there is just something about that bike that fits me better than the other two.
I saw someone comment on the riding position of a true sport bike versus the VFR, I'm just the opposite, my hands get tingle much quicker on the VFR then they do either of the other two bikes, crazy.... I know!
I do really like my VFR, however, the rear tire seems to be a nail magnet! Two so far this year!!!

I am a new again rider, got out of bikes about 20 years ago. I bought a new '07 RWB in May of '08. i have less than 3,000 miles on it. I am 6'4" 204 lbs. When I was looking for a motorcycle, I thought of the Honda CBR1000 or Suzuki 1000 - something big so I would get a better fit. My friend let me ride his spare CBR600 several times last year and this was really too small for me. When I told my friend I was thinking of buying a 1000 cc sportbike, he emphatically said, 'NO. you will kill yourself.' Since he has been riding for over 65 years, I listened. He recommended the VFR. He said this bike would fit my frame and riding style. Never test rode on, never rode any other bikes. I went on his recommendation and discussions with some more experienced riders than myself. In short - I LOVE THIS BIKE. It does everything I need and want. I have no regrets in purchasing this bike. It is absolutely a blast to ride and the RWB paint scheme is awesome.
As many here will know I have too changed bikes over the years, but ironically kept switching back from a 5th to a 6thgen for a while until realising the VTEC is such an capable, competent bike with sportbike looks and handling - I guess it just 'works' for me and fits like a glove.
My last bike was in fact a Triumph Sprint and I personally didn't like the detuned engine or the lack of front end feel but most of all it just felt like it wouldn't go the distance as it rattled along over bumps with it's flimsy luggage and plastics ugh.
I took out a Blackbird the other weekend and brought my girlfriend along and spent a good hour or so riding my favourite local roads, I have to say I do lust after a bigger motor with that effortless torque band but after about 20 minutes on the bike it didn't seem to matter anymore and in fact, I enjoy revving that V4 engine. You should of seen me (and Sarah) after returning the blackbird to the dealer, my wrists and back ached and Sarah could hardly walk. Back on the VFR, I felt the lack of power for about 2 seconds before realising that in the real world, the VFR can still get you into a lot of trouble with the law. I still want one though, but I know it's completely unnecessary.
I'm about to embark on a 1500+mile tour around the Lake District with Sarah and I can't wait - and this is the same bike I used to ride all through winter commuting to work in the snow - it can only be a VFR kids!!!
