Somebody once did that and I'm pretty sure he said he wish he hadn't because his bike always smelled like gasoline.
Mine is all complete and it runs its best just as it is. DOnt mess with things that work.....ok most of the time thats true. You will be better off to loose 10lbs then remove it for any power gains.
I suppose you need to ask yourself why you would want to remove it. Performance gains? I'm not sure if there are any to be had. Driveability? Are you having problems now?
I think "back in the day" the evap system was such a mess of vacuum hoses and related garbage that it was a detriment to the engine. Today those parts are much more refined and I doubt you would ever get a payback from the work it would take to remove the canister.

I don't know how much sophistication there is in the CA fuel vapor recovery system, but I've always trashed them simply because of the additional complexity, bulk and spaghetti of vacuum hoses they require--making working on the bike a nightmare (especially combined with the PAIR system). I don't know if there's any noticeable benefit from removing it, but if the evap can made the bike work any better, Honda probably would have fit them to all of its bikes...
Ciao,
Ciao,
Sometimes its about the bigger picture and doing less harm to the environment rather than worry about an extra pound of emission equipment.....

i agree though. i took mine off along with cat....bike stinks all the time and the evap didn't really change anything (except easier to get to oil filter)

Damn, I guess Im busted. But actually the Blazer Passed smog with below average readings, due to up kept maintenance, and the Mustang has not been out of the garage for a few years :P

Sadly, none of my numerous bikes are ridden more than a few hundred miles a year, which means that, even if they were tuned specifically to pollute as much as physically possible, the mere fact of my ownership of them (rather than by someone who would ride them a "normal" number of miles/year) helps to "save the planet". I am, therefore, greener than thou...

The Cosmo, with it's early Wankel rotary, is probably the worst of the 3.
Your right the Cosmo is the worst by far. Thats why its getting a 93 Ford 5.0 Cobra motor in her soon. All smog in place as well and still get 3 times the power and a tenth of the emission that Rotary puts out. I think I put 300 miles on her last year but that will change with her new power plant. I dont mind emission equipment as it has its place and reasons. I can still pump out over 300 ponies with an air pump and cats and run 87 octane so why mess with it.
