Well, their talking about the new dual clutch setup, but the engine is a V4 with shaft output.

VFR engine?

With what looks like chain driven cams.

Someone quick measure the relative diameter of the combustion chambers to confirm the CC

What oil do I use in this engine?

Is that a surprise to you?
It's kinda obvious that gear-driven cams are dead; Honda first moved the cam drive to the end of the camshafts to make the engine narrower, and when this made it too noisy, got rid of them altogether. Outside of maybe MotoGP, don't expect to see them resurrected, ever.

After reviewing the drawings in some detail, it seems apparent that I will no longer be able to use my favorite tires with this engine. That could be a deal breaker.

In the future, bikers will look at 3rd, 4th and 5th gen VFRs like they look at old Ducatis with their vertical shaft bevel gear cam drives......Maybe someone could start putting site glass windows on 5th gen cam covers too so we cans see those gnashing, whining gears do their work! What about pantographing (perforating the drive gears too to get rid of reciprocating weight and maybe quicken engine response??

Funny thing is when you rev the piss out of the VTEC in order to get any power,it seems to me to be much louder than my 4 or 5th gen bikes from memory.Just an educated guess on my part as a pro audio guy.Need to get a 4 or 5 gen next to a VTEC and put a DB meter on them to prove this.Would bet a couple of dinero on that, as Ive heard the theory of noise as to why they removed the gear-drive by several people.I think it's more cost and weight as the reason. Can't wait to adjust my cam-chain when it gets loose,.,,

Dual clutch sounds heavy but I'm guessing that seamless shifts on a shafty will make up for that in spades?

oops. Just noticed this is a three page discussion in another thread. But at least I got in on the 'ground floor' (first page) of this repost thread

Oh, that's so funny. At the bottom of the page there is a picture of a DN-01 with the caption, "Honda releases new automatic 700cc sports motorcycle"

Got to remember how the noise standards are conducted. Something like 4000rpms in 2nd gear. Tis the whole reason for the VTEC system. Quiet in that range. Same reason many of the RR bikes have crazy FI maps down low.

Kevin

PS

I'll be waiting for someone to really explain the noise standards, but you'll see what I'm saying correct in theory.

Funny, I was doing that last night in Photoshop. but couldn't come up with an accurate calculation. it would be to hard to figure out the stroke.

Harley has been failing these test regularly for years. Even after the tariff, and the explosion of HD stock and the sales of trillions of tractors, the man is still helping them. (This is engine noise-not exhaust, by the way). There is rumour that whoever is turning a bling ear retired or something and the water cooled and quieter V-Roid engines will be going into all the bikes soon.

Its funny because at certain rpms, all I can hear from my 5th gen is the gear whir from under the tank. I think if it was anything other than cam-drive, it would annoy me.

So very true. When I had the stock pipe all I heard were the GDC until wind noise took over. Now I hear the GDCs AND exhaust until the wind takes over.
