Corbin Seat Material

I know it's been debated many times already on here, Corbin vs Sargeant. But I made up my mind that I'm going to get the Corbin with the passenger backrest. I'm looking for recommendations for the material as they have many options. I sat on an 05 with a Corbin the other day and I noticed it was slippery. I was wearing work pants rather than my usual jeans, but it still seemed a little too slippery. (It was being sold at a dealership, so the salesman had no clue.)

Corbin's site says the carbon fiber look material offers more grip. But yet I read on another forum that it's actually slippery.

What do you Corbin owners have? Would you recommend it?

I have a Corbin w/ the carbon fiber look and it doesn't have much grip at all, it's pretty slick, especially for the passenger. I've only ridden 1 other bike w/ a Corbin (non carbon fiber look) and I remember it being stickier...but that was a couple years ago...

2up: If my wife and I are going long distances, we'll go w/ the Corbin + backrest and she doesn't slide around much. Short distances, we'll sometimes put the stock seat on w/ the "Triboseat" passenger cover, works great.

1up it really doesn't bother me.

I didn't notice any big adjustment over my stocker. It is more slippery, but not so much that I was sliding all over the place.

What's your riding gear made of?

It's not slippery when I wear leather. On all else it's a bit slippery, but not too much.

I bought a Corbin (smooth leather) Smuggler second-hand about two years ago. It was so slippery I actually emailed Corbin about how to remedy it.

Never heard from them.

But time (aided by a few washes with saddle soap) has pretty much eliminated the issue.

I have the Corbin w/ backrest model in carbon fiber but found it way tooooo slick, especially when 2 up. I found a local upholstery shop and had them replace the inserts only (seat areas) with another material (used for jet skis). It cost another $200 but money well spent as I don't slide anymore and my wife doesn't slam me into the tank when stopping quickly. BTW, she also says that she likes the new inserts as she doesn't slide as much as she used to.

I have the fiber weave look.. it's coming apart. seems to be a vinyl of some sort. I'd rather have the carbon look at this point... think it would hold up better.

Funny how Corbin says the fiber look gives extra traction, but yet everybody that has it says it's more slippery. :huh: I got a line on a used one w/carbon fiber and backrest from somebody on here. I might just take him up on it. If it's too slippery, they sell non-slip covers of various types, eBay etc.

I've got a carbon fibre one with a passenger backrest. With leathers on I haven't noticed it being slippery at all. Quite the opposite really. Compared to the stock seat, which always forced me into the tank, I'm planted solidly with the Corbin. I love it and wish I got it 100,000kms earlier! My wife hasn't ridden much on it yet but she likes it.

She just has jeans, which I also wear most of the time. That's the one area, gear-wise, that I'm lacking. I'm not a leather guy. I have 2 textile jackets. Probably pick up a pair of textile pants over the winter.

I got a leather for my ST1300....it now resides on a shelf.....Sargent no longer offers the grip tex material....but that is the bomb...
Rodmy 5th gen seat is stock...fine for blazin..

$5.00 no slip material you can buy at the Hardware store. I got some of the thicker cargo no slip and use it on the passenger seat. 100% better as it keeps the girlfriend in her place! So far its the only thing that will do that :blink:

That sounds like the way to go. With the R6, she would always slide forward into me at stops. It helped that she had nothing to hold onto. Thankfully the VFR has the passenger grab rails (one of her requirements when I was looking for a new bike).
