What You Didn't Want Is Missing!

Anyone notice the lack of VTEC? The lack of cylinder shutdown mechanisms etc?

A lot of posters were getting really exercised about the bits that no sport bike needed, and Voila! they aren't there.

It isn't a sportbike. $10 says the VFR1000RR has them. :blink:

I thought the cylinder shutdown system IS in place on this model!!

Let's wait and see what Honda actually delivers. If you read the October '09 issue of Motorcyclist magazine, the VFR1200 most definitely has VTEC.

Here's the article in its entirety. At first everything I had been reading online and in magazines said the engine would produce 200 horses. Now I'm hearing 170. I was also reading and hearing about two cylinder deactivation. Now some are saying nonsense.

I believe it's called VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) or some such...

Honda's just not shouting about it this time..

I've not seen any info to indicate it did make it in the new VFR1200F. But if it IS in there (and Honda isn't saying anything about it at this point) that will be a huge strike against the bike for me...bigger than some of the other shortcomings it currently has.

+1, unnessary doodad that not many people liked when it was there. If the electronics/mechanisms involved kicked in the vtec gradually somehow and wasn't so on/off in execution I'm sure it would've gotten a warmer response from owners of 6th gens. If they can make it work, sure why not have it?

Its suppose to have some cylinder shut down at 1/4 throttle and below 6000 rpm, may not be vtech but its some from of green stuff.

I think I read somewhere that the Cylinder deactivation will come only with the dual clutch model.
I'm betting on a few other additions with the dual clutch as welll. I'm probably imagining things but in the Dual clutch video demo, the dual clutch model seemed to have a very white headlight viewed from the side.
Hid's perhaps? I mentioned the headlights before in regards to line beam. Are they really that much better then regular H4's and H7's.We are going to two headlight bulbs from the currant four.Seems like a back step.
Any CBR 1000RR owners want to chime in about their line beam headlights?

That article was written before the official release. It may not be 100% accurate, I wouldn't be surprised if they missed that one detail. VCM could be missing. Why would Honda not be advertising it? On the other hand, Honda didn't mention the front fork has damping adjustments.
