Just talked with my Farmers/Foremost insurance agent yesterday about my newly acquired 06 VFR and my jaw dropped at the rate quote. My Corvette was waaaay cheaper! The quote was over $1200/yr with a $500 deductible (liability + comprehensive) and I'm 48 yrs old!
Is this inline with what you guys out there are paying?

Yeh, thats pretty typical , try Esurance probably 80% less
When I first got my vfr all the major companies wanted around 1200, and I kept at it. Within 2 months found a company at 40% savings and stayed with them for couple years, till they started jacking the rates up, and found esurance. Last 2 years has costed me $120 per year with esurance
I have full coverege but is base level, and no medical, You cant beat that .
Bike insurance seems expensive over there! I pay around the equivalent of $250 a year fully comp and I dont even have to put it in a garage! (I am 47 with 9 years no claims discount)
Esurance is MUCH cheaper, but have not had to use them for a claim.... I am 23 years old and have a 600 dollar a year policy with 500 dollar deductible. I pay 50.00 a month for insurance, which is fine with me. (That is also with a speeding ticket on my record)
OK, thru Esurance I got a quote for $310/yr. MUCH BETTER!!! WHEW! I just wonder how good they are at paying claims. I've been very happy/impressed with Farmers in the past but this latest quote from them is just Nucking Futs!
Anyone out there with paid claims experience thru Esurance?
Im 42 with no tickets and I have full coverage on my 2006 vfr for just over 450 dollars a year with AAA. But I also have cars and house aswell covered with AAA. Hope that helps!

Get quotes from as many companies as you can. Or get a good agent. I have a great agent who specializes in bikes, and I always let him choose the policy for me. When I switched to him I got better coverage for half of what I was paying.
I pay Progressive $206.00 per year, which includes collision and comprehensive. They reduced it from $212.00 at the first anniversary. Haven't had a claim yet, though.
As bryan217 said above, I've read a few nasty stories about esurance. Watch out is all I'm saying.
There are a ton of factors built into insurance rates, including (but not limited to):
your age
occupation
education level
homeowner/renter
marital status
credit score
your location
parked on street/in driveway/in garage
driving history/record
bike/auto being insured
primary use of vehicle
vehicle vintage
commuting distance
rider/driver training
# of years ridden
coverage levels
Personally, I'm with Progressive Direct (online, not an agent) and I'm paying $174/year w/a small MSF class discount. I'm 40, married 16 yrs, homeowner, college grad, 12 years employed w/same company (ops mgr), live in a city in a semi-rural area, live 11 miles from work, have a couple tickets on my record but no accidents, ride an '04 VFR, have good credit, park my bike in our attached garage nightly and have full coverage with lower limits and $250 or $500 deductibles.
There might be cheaper alternative to Progessive for me, but I've been with them since I started riding 3.5 years and they're a reputable company. I'm very happy with them so far, esp. since the tickets didn't affect my rate.
I was quoted around $900 with progressive. GMAC quoted me around $540 a year.
Farmers/Formost stink. I was with farmers for 10 years and when quoted the 06 vfr800 they told me a outragous price as well. My agent told me that they insure harleys for like $300 a year. They are just high with anything else.
I'm 48 and pay $375/yr. for full coverage on my '06 with Geico. I had a tip-over claim with them this year to replace a cracked upper cowl and the cover of a Givi saddlebag, and they were outstanding in their service. They even reimbursed ME for replacing the Givi cover myself...
Just curious. Am I the only one that doesn't carry collision? I consider the bike to be a play toy, not a necessity. I paid cash for it, and can do most repairs myself. I figure if I do bend it, I'll repair it myself. Being that I don't have to ride it to work the next day, I can take time to do any repairs. Besides, having not paid for collision in 25 years of riding, I've saved at least $7500 in insurance, which is more than I've paid for any of my bikes.
I'm 40/chained, no tickets, with multi-vehicle discount, long time customer and am paying $534 a yr with Safeco for two '04 VFR's. One is liability only at $119 a yr. The other has collision but no personal injury or uninsured/under-insured for $415. I did have a low-speed dump a year ago and they were great handling the claim.

I wouldnt tie my whole financial life to esurance and their processes could be slower for claims, but if you want to save money and mainly need the peice of paper to be legal, they are a good choice.
I mean $1200 is crazy for what some of these publically traded companies are asking for a vfr. The lowest I could find in my area was GIECO, at 860 , next yesr down to 485, then they started the escallation back to 540. I jumped on the esurance deal.
But I'm about to go on year 3 with Esurance, and rate went down a dollar the second year.
esurance is pretty cheap for me but im not so sure about switching to them.although ive read the bad stories about them how do you know?i refuse to do service with all state they are a bunch of low ballers on claims.

Can't resist, must chime-in....
I am paying Progressive $215 a year for full coverage with towing / roadside... and a $250 deductible.
No multi-car, house, etc. discount. Just 38 year old with a clean driving record.
Oh, and that's in southern Arizona where I can ride it all year long. Go figure?!?!?
The price differences around the country don't make sense to me. Anyone???
Thats a good deal. South Central Texas Progressive for me 46 , house, cars, clean record, and good credit. They want like $800, Geico want $540, Esurance $120.
Insurance for the most part seems to make absolutely no sense

Collision is the least expensive coverage provided. It's so cheap on mine, that I'd be silly not to take it.

I forgot about the towing and road side assistance that's included. Thanks for the reminder.

+1 on Geico, I'm 46 and pay $550/yr. for full coverage on an '06, with $500 deductible.
I pay $18/month for my 02 VFR (full coverage w/ $500 ded.) with one speeding ticket (that darn Vtec engine). I have State Farm, and I also have my Vibe, my Escape, my Silverado, my house/garage, the family life, and jewlery insurance through them...so that might be saving me some money on my bike insurance overall.
Actually, the speeding ticket didn't have any effect on my rates at all.
Apparently my perfect credit, 33yrs riding experience, no collisions, no tickets, Auto, & Home policies don't amount to Jack Squat with Foremost. It's got to be something related to this area I live in. The best rate I'm finding from any of the more reputable companies is via a slightly trimmed back policy (Liab/Comp/Coll) with Progressive for $398
Liability only with Foremost is $117/yr but I'd dread the day the bike went down.
There was another discussion about this a while back. The bottom line is you NEED to shop around because rates vary widely. Here's what I posted in that THREAD.

Oklahoma Farm Bureau
$128 every 6 months. 38 years old, clean record.
Liability ( limits= 25K person/50K max for Personal Injury, 25K property damage) $44
Comprehensive ($500 deductible) $84
Mals
Hope it doesn't change too much with my recent... incident. It's invariably worth it to shop around
Texas insurance isn't the lowest in the United States of America.. :usac:
That said, a lower price is ALWAYS available. What people tend to forget is, "what is the company's record of handling claims?". Also, "full coverage" can mean anything. It needs to be higher than it was just 5 years ago. Key question....do you have a couple million, at least, in umbrella insurance? Insurance is very much taken for granted in many respects...wait till you get sued. FWIW.
Do your homework and know what YOU really need. :fing02:

I would do this on a naked or standard, but certainly not on a 6th gen VFR.

My Geico coverage is about the same - 55 years old, zero tickets in last 5 years.
$360 per year for full coverage on my 07 through State Farm... 38, married, but I've got a couple of tickets from a bright blue Audi S4 I owned for about a year. I will never, ever buy a car that stands out like that blue again.
Both times I got popped I was on the interstate with the cruise control set 10 above the speed limit. Had driven a Black A4 like that for 6 years without a ticket - bright blue car scored me 2 tickets in a 6 month time-frame. Tell me cops don't color-profile cars - I don't believe it...
No disrespect to any LEOs here, it makes sense that if a car is more noticeable it's going to get more attention...
I am 50,no tickets, liability only, own house, 03 VFR, State Farm multi veh, $141 a year.http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/uploads/1256192773/gallery_18972_5012_24397.jpg 10.18.129a.jpg

Certainly your location, riding distance, storage method and driving record will have significant impact, but I pay about $28.00/month for full coverage on my 03 VFR about $40.00/month for full coverage on my '07 CBR600RR. I use Progressive and live in Utah with both bikes kept in a secure garage. I have a clean driving record.
My car is on Farmer's and the initial quote for the Interceptor was around $1200/year! You don't even want to know what they wanted for the CBR- I got the quote from them after I got the bike (and covered it on Progressive) as a sort of joke.

I have seen quotes like that, but they are nuts, Esurance was $108 for last year where progressive now wants about $800 on my 06 and Geico wants about $550. when new it was in the 1200's
I'm dumping 1200/year at progressive for my 07 i bought last june. I carry a $500 deductible, i got 50/100/50k with roadside. I'm 28, married, cleveland suburb house, bought it cash, no tickets, had a no fault accident(someone hit me in my car 2 yrs ago, minor damage), took a safety course, honda riders club discount (btw it's now free to join) I dropped collision for the winter and saved $400 bucks, since they don't do 6mo policy's like they do for cars. Oh yea and thats with the paid in full up front discount too. Geico was almost 1800/yr it must be cause I live in Ohio
I'm 35 with a clean record, married, home owner, 500 deductible, in North Carolina with full coverage. 379 a year through progressive. I feel as though I got a pretty good deal since the last bike I insured was 6 years ago and it cost just over 450 a year.
I'm 27 & married, I pay $24 per month with State Farm full coverage with $1000 Deductible. I've been with them for 11 years. I have probably 5 or 6 tickets across different states, and 2 wrecks, both total losses (auto).. I pay about $90 a month for all 3 coverages, Life, 04 VFR800 ABS, and 06 BMW 325i. I don't know why its so cheap with my driving record, but I don't ask questions.
I pay $340 per year for full coverage with $250 deductible. 54 years old, single with no tickets or accidents. In NY. That price was 60% lower than geico or progressive.
STATE FARM. STATE FARM. I love STATE FARM. Farmers is a rip off. I pay about 32 a month. Full coverage. 250 deductible. I'm 30 years old and I think I still have one ticket on my record.
I know this is just adding another voice to the choir, but coverages are only a part of what makes up the rate you pay, so comparing rates on a forum isn't a good way to get a sense of what you should or will be paying.
Also, rates vary widely. When I bought my bike I got four quotes. They ranged from $300 (Progressive) to $1500 (I forget who). All I do remember about the $1500 quote was the woman asking me, "Shall I write that up for you now?" Uh, no thanks, I'll do some shopping around.
I ended up going with Progressive. I carry pretty high liability coverages (necessary due to an umbrella liability policy we have) and $1000 deductible collision and $250 or $500 deductible comprehensive.
