What's This?

Behind the round part of the light lins shown here, is a hole about 2" behind the lins. I couldn't find any info on the purpose of it.... Does anyone Know what it is?

thought it was a parking light for Euro-spec bikes. someone else will have to confirm.

Yeah, it's come up before.

Other countries require running or park lights and on Euro models you will find lights installed in these locations! :rolleyes:

Actually, I like the KITT concept, but I have such a dislike to messing with MC electrics I'm sure I'll leave it alone(although I do have it wired for volts/vest/charger). :beer:

I think they're called "City light". A sort of marker light that turns on with your park lights.
It's just one of those goodies that they give most of the world and leave off on US bikes and cars.
Maybe we really can't blame the manufacturer for leaving those out as the DOT guidlines are so strict on what you can and could not have on your vehicles. The bike and car companies might have decided to leave things off that are not in the DOT requirements list to avoid having to take them all out later as a recall if some engineer/beureaucrat at DOT suddenly decides it's not a "safe" thing to have later on.

I don't think hiding one will do any good, at least in Va. they can tell if you're running one. Also it's has more range the higher you mount it.... Just a FYI.....

The diagram number (FWIW) is MCWE-F0100, and applies to the 2008 model. (I couldn't find a 2007 model listing on that site.)
The pigtail is known as "Socket comp." and is item 6 on the diagram. I don't have a part number yet, though. It appears I have to register on the site in order to get part numbers.

I'm guessing... but I'd say it should fit any 6gen .... and I'm not to optimistic they're going to be there disconnected....

I figured they'd be relatively "6th Gen generic," but I do worry that I might take the time to open things up and then find nothing there to connect to. What a bummer that would be!

Well Veefer Madness managed to hook his's up..... but he is Canadian and I donot know how they differ from US spec..... :biggrin:

I'm not interested in hiding it for police purpose. I live in South Carolina and rarely if ever travel to Virginia. I just don't want to have my radar detector mounted out where I can see it. I just want to have a discreet alert device and not actually have the bulky device there. Another reason is I want to permanentally affix it on the bike, waterproofed and all. It seems like a good place to put the detection device.

I spent a couple of minutes in the garage this morning, looking around the nose of the VFR. I came back with two observations. First, I don't see any loose connectors in there that look like they'd attach to the harness Veefer Madness showed. :unsure: Second, and perhaps more disturbingly, I felt in behind the round space where that bulb/socket would sit. It doesn't feel like something that will push/pull/pop out. Does this mean there's some serious disassembly and then some cutting involved? :blink:

Now if I can find what it connects to, and how to install it, I'm set. :)

The plugin on that looks to be about the same as whats used for the air temp sensor.

Having had the "pleasure" of tearing the front off, I don't believe my '02 has any spare wires up there. And the headlight buckets would have to be drilled as there's no knockout or hole there.

One thing to remember, you can't have any light other then white or amber showing forward here in the US.
Now, if you rig a switch to use only when parked, you're fine.

1)No plugs on the harness for this
2)You have to drill the hole out on North American headlights
3)Splice into any switched green and also a brown wire up front.(headlight low beam or running light up to '05. '06 and up, lic. plate light or low beam.
4)Either splice direct to light socket to bike harness or get corresponding plug for disconnect setup.
