Loose sidestand/kickstand

So a couple weeks back I put the sidestand down and noticed the bike was leaning much farther over to the side than was usual. Pulling the kickstand apart and reassembling it hasn't helped. It's still really loose feeling. Anyone run into this problem before? Got any good solutions? I'm thinking a really slim washer might work...

There is one bolt and one nut(stud) holding the sidestand on, but one has the tendency to fall out. Check both! :rolleyes:

+1 Had the pleasure of losing the nut on mine. Glad I didn't lose the bike.

So if I understand you correctly, from the outside (nearest the gearshift) to the inside, in order, it's: nut, sidestand, bikeframe, threaded bolt, sidestand switch... ?

With the bike placed on the centerstand, you will be able to place the sidestand in it's natural position. Tthe foot pad should be approx 190 degrees from TDC, or 12:00. Just forward of the bolt w/nut that holds the sidestand switch in place you will see where there is an empty hole in the sidestand bracket that will line up with a cast aluminum threaded boss. You have a missing bolt (like I did!) that is allowing the assy to rotate on it's center when weight is on it. The shop where I bought the bike provided my wife a few samples and I was able to install one. Everyone check the security of this bolt Takes an 8mm allen if my memory is correct. CRASH

Forgot to mention that I have the luxury of a Chineese blueprint.....my RWB 2007!


the missing bolt will be at the 9 O'clock position as to where the sidestand pivots. In between that point and the gear shift lever. Just under an imaginary line drawn between those two points.

This is a known issue on the 2002 models. (It happened to me also) It was apparently traced back to an improperly adjusted pneumatic wrench at the factory.

One of the bolts that mount the base of the sidestand to the engine case was not torqued properly and will rattle out over time. If you look underneath, you will notice that the sidestand mounting base has two holes (and one of yours is empty). Go to the hardware store, buy the correct bolt and install with loctite. You're good to go.

Happened on my '98 as well. If they had an incorrect torque setting at the factory, they must have had it wrong for a long time. :goofy:
