Getting my 03 soon, what to be aware of.

I should be able to pick up my 03 with ABS soon and I wanted to check to see what I need to check for known issues first.

Recall info, is my bike effected and if so where do I check to see if it was done?
I've heard about a blue connector thing, does this effect my bike?
Any chain or other known issues I need to look into before I spend money I need for maintenance on mods?

If you sign up here Honda Owner Link with the VIN, it will tell you if you have any outstanding recalls.

If recall work was done by a dealer, the VIN on the headstock should be "centerpunched".

At some point in time you'll probably have to put a thermostat in the thing. Seems like everyone does eventually. But maybe you'll be lucky and the previous owner will have already freshened that up for you.

Honda has had issues with cam chain tensioners since I owned my Hurricane, so that's always a possibility. Some here have encountered that issue, some ignore, some fix multiple times, one guy claims the oil you use can cure the problem..... YMMV.

Otherwise, have fun on your new ride.

Be aware that you will spend alot of time away from the family, logging thousands and thousands of trouble free, enjoyable miles.

Definitely check your 30amp fuse and the wiring next to the battery and make sure of the recalls. You should also check the kickstand bolt as some tend to loosen up.

How can I use that when there's a clock on the bike? My last one doesn't have a clock so that excuse worked. And I'm planning on getting a communication system so she'll be able to reach me while I'm out. Hmm, I'll have to rethink this all...

Leave the key on till battery dies then push start it. This will reset the clock..

"Ooops sorry honey I lost track of time after I forgot and left the key on, Had to push start the bike and it had reset the clock"

Problem solved..

Of the 3 V4's I have owned:

Depending on Miles:
Check battery and reg/rec. Personally I have never had a reg/rec go bad, but I have had to buy at least 1 battery for each of my bikes.
Shock: With baggage my rear shock lost its sprong at about 20k miles
Kickstand bolt: already mentioned
Honda CCT's: Already mentioned

My Advice: Obviously at this point you know the bike is solid, so check out the owner...

I see that you are also in MN... So make sure the guy stored it correctly. Just sayin'
