I'm hoping to hook up with a good group in the upstate/central NY area this year for weekend/day trips. I moved back up here last year from Columbus and had a pretty lame summer - only about 6-7K on my Thunderbird Sport. I got me an '03 VFR in the fall and it's been a long, cold winter - I'm ready to ride!

Day trips through the Adirondacks, Alleghany region, toward Albany or Binghamton... I'm game. I like to camp too, so weekend trips are likely.

My friends and I have a few longer trips planned for this summer as well: one to Prince Edward Island, the other to Thunder Bay. I'll probably be going back down to Ohio via PA/WV to see my old 'mates a few times.

BTW - ordered my Remus exhuast today. I can't wait!!

Well Hello fellow North Easterner
I grew up in Rochester NY but have since moved to Connecticut. My brother still lives up there and is always looking for riding buddies. He rides a 955i. I'll pass this info onto him.
By the way, i'll be riding up there July 4th weeknd, passing through on my way to Toronto for a sport Bike rally
Let me know if you are interested and i'll swing by.

That's the one
Still working on details.....Dates and time off from work
But yeah, it's on my calender and it's a go.
Leaving from South East Connecticut and headin to Rochester NY, Staying at my brothers house over night and riding up with him in the morning. Any riding partners are welcome
I am not an overly agressive rider, non stunta, but like to ride
We'll work out the details

This weekend sould be very good to get out and stretch out your legs. Dunno about up in Albany, but here in NYC, its going to reach close to the mid 60s. I'm going for another "3 corners ride", starting from NYC, into Binghamton, then Albany. Although it will be raining in the morning, it it was anything like it was the other day, it wont be much.

yo, mars-

i'm always looking for a good jaunt around the countryside.

i live in Cortland, NY, about half way between syracuse and binghamton. i work in syracuse and i put a lot of miles on my bike during summer months.

i usually head south when i ride, but i've done a few trips up to the Utica area. i even made it out to the vermont/new hampshire/boston area last fall.

my schedule is crazy, but drop me a line anytime.

trip.

Sounds Good LtTripMD - Cortland's not far at all.  I'll be in touch.

My friend Mitch (03 Yamaha Warrior) and I are headed out riding in a little while... he's a big wimp so he'll think it's too cold to  ride far  :shake:

Sometime soon we should meet at Stella's Diner in Syracuse for breakfast and head out toward the Finger Lakes or something like that.  Take care!

Cexley - let your bro know - sounds cool.  I'm still rather fond of British steel (after I pay off the vfr I'm up for a Daytona 600!)  The 4th of July weekend is when I believe we're starting our 9-day trip up to Thunder Bay, so I don't think I can do that one.

btw, there's a group ride being organized over on ST-net.

we're meeting in northern jersey and riding up to Orange County Choppers.

the trip is currently scheduled for April 25th, though that is a sunday and they will not be open so i've hinted at the idea of going on the 24th.

i'll post a link later, in a rush now! sorry.

Just watched the 5:30 news here in Syracuse.   70 degrees on Sunday.

:D WOOOHOOOOO!!!  :D

Looks like a great day to get the bike out!!
#14
This weekend does look perfect.  We should plan a ride for Saturday morning - maybe get started about 10:30.  LtTripMD?  vetie?  Who's game?  I have little doubt that I'll be out on my wheels all weekend, so either day is good for me.
We could shoot south of Syracuse to Tully then cut east on 80 - parts of 80 get pretty fun.  I don't know how much of the day you guys have to ride, but last week I discovered the most awesome stretch - rt 51 just south of Ilion.  It's incredible!
One of these days LtTrip's gotta show off some of those Cortland County roads as well.

sounds like a plan brother.

my schedule for saturday will get handed to me on friday, which sucks, but it is the nature of my life.

i imagine that regardless of what they tell me, i'll be free to screw around by 10:30 in the morning.

i'll go ahead and just PM you with my phone numbers. we can pretty much go wherever.

trip.
#16
k. i PM'd this to mars, but for everyone else interested, here are some ideas:

these are all "me" centric. that is, they are places that i'm familiar with and are conveniently located for my existance. please modify and/or reject as needed.

around the finger lakes:
we could meet somewhere around exit 16 on 81. (there's a triumph/aprilia dealer around there we could use as a meeting point) we could ride out towards skaneateles (kind of boring, but usually not too much traffic) from skaneateles we could go loop the lake (41/41a), eat lunch in town, and then do "13 corners" which, honestly, i'd have to ask around about because i don't remember how to get there.

Ithaca
this is obviously more of a hike for you, but it's a better ride than around skaneateles. we would start around exit 11 (which is about 100 yards from my house) and drive south on 11. hang a right on 392 (passing Greek Peak on the left) continue through virgil then hop on 13 in dryden (i don't like 13 much, but it's a necessary evil) 13 will take us through ithaca. on the other side of ithaca we would pick up 327 which goes through Treman State Park. that's an incredible ride, though i've only ever done it once. *but* when we get to the end of 327 you will find that you have been on your bike for nearly 4 hours and you'll be at least 3 hours away from Utica. this is a great ride, though only if you're feeling really hard core.

the 81/20 crotch
another possibility for riding rodes that are familiar to me would be to ride around the area south and east of where route 81 and route 20 cross. (fabius, cazenovia, truxton, sheds area). there is not specific route through there that i can recall, but i've stumbled across several roads in the region that are a ton of fun. we would just kind of wander with no particular road in mind.

let me know what you think.

oh, and here's the link to the April 25th Orange County Choppers Ride.

if you're interested in staying the night closer to their start location, let me know. my plan is to stay in Binghamton at a friends house, but we could get split a motel room closer if someone's interested.

trip.
#18
Hey guys, Just spent the last 3 days down in the city and havent been able to check the board. I'm game for Saturday morning. You guys want to meet somwhere in Syracuse and then head south to 80? Let me know where and what time.
#19
i just left a message on Mars' voice mail. the official decision was to meet at Riverside Motorsports off exit 16 in Nedrow New York at 10am.

from 81 south, get off exit 16 and make a right at the end of the off ramp. the dealership is about a mile and a half? up on the right. we'll be there at ten o'clock.

my cell phone number is 6.0.7. 4.2.3. 3.9.4.9.

gimme a ring if you have any questions/gonna be late/whatever.

if i don't answer it's probably because i'm riding. leave a message.

trip.

#28
Hey Guys -

Trip - you do that OCC trip today?  It sure was cold & wet out there today.  Mitch (my friend w/ Yamaha Warrior) and I went riding yesterday - took him down to the Ilion Gorge which he'd never seen before.  We had a good ride, but didn't go far.  I crashed at his place last night and had to ride back this morn just as the rain was getting started.  It was 41 out and I didn't have my rain pants, colder-weather gloves, OR my scarf.  My knees were so cold by the time I got to Rome I didn't know if I could hold the bike up!  :shake:

I'm game on a ride next weekend.   :wheel:
#29
I crashed at his place last night and...

I should be careful using that "C" word in vfrdiscussion!   I meant it in the "catching some Zs" way of the word!
#30
Yeah my eyes just jumped right to the C word for some reason.

Just poking in on your thread from the left coast.
One of the best things about VFRd is meeting new riders,
ain't it? :D

Ride safe.
