HISS

I've performed a search & looks like the US release doesn't have HISS fitted on the 07, I just want to be sure because thinking about buying a wreck here in Australia but has no key so with HISS fitted makes buying the wreck a costly project because I would need to buy complete HISS system which costs a bomb. If the US model doesn't have HISS I would only need a US ECU & wiring harness.

No HISS on north american Viffer 800s of any model year to present.

'Honda Integrated Security System'. It utilises a microchipped key programmed to the ECU: if you have the wrong key or no key, the ECU's immobilized. It also gives you a flashing LED on the instrument panel to alert thieves they can't start your bike with a screwdriver.

For the record HISS stands for Honda Ignition Security System.

Roy there was a complete set on oz ebay a few weeks ago, it was 02-05 though.
BO might have something.
Have you looked at getting a new key programmed?

Car manufactures can make them from the VIN with proof of ownership, maybe Honda can do the same? :idea3:
Have you contacted Honda or a local Dealer about it?

Because the question does get asked allot & I have done research into it, if you have a bike with HISS fitted you can only have another key reprogrammed if you still have one original key that starts the bike which is HISS programmed (your Honda dealer can program another key from the key you have).
Honda can send you a replacement key for your bike if you have the serial number that was on the silver tag with keys when you first bought your bike, they will not accept VIN or Engine numbers.

If you lose both keys & also don't have silver tag serial number your up shit creek & will need to replace HISS setup from Honda or try to find complete setup secondhand.

The reason it is like this is because it is a security system & if it was easy to circumvent then it wouldn't be much of a security system.

I find it interesting that Honda doesn't sell their US bikes with HISS. Though they're not alone. I know Yamaha has a similar device on some models, like the R6, but not in the US. With the R6, it was a popular mod to get the Euro blanks cut for the US bikes. The only 'advantage' was a most substantial, cool looking key.

But I don't understand why the manufacturers don't sell the bikes here with the security systems. :unsure:

Maybe has to do with insurance. Without an immobiliser you can't, or at least it is very hard, to get the bike insured for theft. Is that different in the US?

Yes it is quite different here. Immobilizers are rare on motorcycles. A lot of lower end cars don't have them even.
