Touring windscreens

What options are there for touring windscreens for an '03. I'm 6'-4" and about 24" across at the shoulders The air blast coming off the stock screen hits me about mid chest and I can't tuck down far enough to allow the wind to flow around me better. I think I would get better fuel economy and 6th gear wouldn't lug so much at 70mph if the air could flow around me better.

I like the Look on the Zero G touring screen but was curious if there were better screens out there.

Welcome aboard! There are many options. I'm 76" tall also, and the one I chose is a Puig "Racing" screen, which is really a double bubble type. It may not do the very best job of wind dispersion, but I notice very little buffeting at all compared to stock. It performs more like a touring screen without the high profile. Plus, there's extra space over the tach to tuck your gloves or whatever when you're gearing up or down before or after a ride. Available in clear, light or dark smoke.

I'm only 6', I went with a zero gravity double bubble. It smoothed out the air flow on my helmet better than stock, unless I have a passenger, then its worse than stock, go figure.

I put a zero gravity Sport Touring wind screen on my CBR1000RR and it's the shizzle, but I also haven't rode much two up on that thing.

I don't think you'll find anything that'll deflect the air over you, its how it adjusts the air that hits you that can really make the difference.

I picked up a blemished ZG Touring screen from their Outlet recently for $50 . At 5'10" the bulk of the air hits the top of my visor and is a major impovement over the standard ZG. On initial inspection ZG's quality may seem a bit poor and they don't always fit well against the front cowl but they do a good job. Mine have held up for several thousand miles and lots of cleanings.

The Puig screens seem well made and the thickness is similar to the stocker but I haven't tried one yet.

+1 I also have the ZG Touring screen in smoke color. I'm 6'3" and it made a huge difference for me. I couldn't even turn my head to check my blind spot with the stocker if I was going over 70... I also bought from the zgoutlet--price very good!

I'm 5'9" (180cm) and after putting GenMar risers on my 5th. gen the turbulence was really uncomfortable. A Zero Gravity double bubble sorted it out nicely. No turbulence now, just smooth riding - And it looks great too, IMO. I got mine from eBay, also a "blemished" one. Not that I could find a single blemish on it, but that might just as well be a hint for me to see an optometrist ASAP :fing02:

I purchased a GIVI touring windscreen this past March in Daytona while visiting the GIVI tent. It is much taller than stock and gives much better coverage. It is not perfect since I am 6'4. I rode it 350 miles back home and I am overall pleased with it. The fit and finish is good but not as much as the stock shield. They even did the install for me while I was test riding some bikes.
It seems to be a little thinner than stock but held up to some triple digit speeds on I-95 for an extended time.
I haven't tried other options but I think Givi normally is of the highest quality.
As a side note, the Givi tent guys were the best and even invited me to their warehouse,show room in Charlotte NC to see their goods.

6'5" here and I didn't like stock so I got an MRA shield with a large "flip" at the end. Not the laminar lip style MRA, something else, got it from Twisted Throttle. It moved the air blast up a couple inches, but buffeting was off the chart, so I ended up taking it to a band saw and cut it down very far. Off the bike it looks like a boomerang. Air is very smooth now until about 75 MPH, then it starts getting pretty crazy again.

I'm not real happy with the situation, hopefully this thread gives you some good ideas.

I did buy a Memphis Shades windscreen for my old F4i once to use on a Bunburner trip. Worked great, but was a terrible fit. gaps against eh cowl and had to enlarge two mounting holes. With a little effort it fit great. Ugly as all get out, but the most effective by far. It had the fat round lip around the edge like the factory screens.

I had the same experience as you. My ZG touring shield, while not the thickness of the stocker, fits my 6th gen perfectly. It had a light 2" scuff mark on it (factory 2nd) that I was able to buff out completely with a cutting agent. I'm very happy with this shield--especially at speed; no buffeting issues at all. I also have bar risers on mine.

I"m 6'1" and bought the Zero Gravity touring - to be honest, it'd didn't make much of a difference.
The 'dirty' air still hits me under the helmet or right on the helmet and creates a bunch of noise.
In fact if I stand up on the pegs the air is cleaner above the windscreen. I'm tempted to buy a double-bubble or really cut one down to make sure the air flow is much lower on my body.
I'll be curious to see if you have any success with it.

I have used a Laminar Lip on my 6th gen for 2 years now and I am reasonably happy. I am 5'9" and the lip kicks the air from mid chest to helmet level which creates more noise but the air is smooth as silk. Since I always wear ear plugs the added noise is not an issue. Somebody taller might not encounter the added wind noise. I think the lip looks a bit funky compared to stock, but IMO so do all the tall touring type screens...

I also have a DB and a stock ZG that I bought retail and they are the same as the one from the outlet.

As far as noise, Id think 6ft plus riders ought to be in the quietest noise area for stock shiled.

Thats my issue with high shields, noise goes from bad to horrendus. I run a taller seat which sets me in the quitest zone on stock bike. Just above the main air stream I lower my head, its into a noisey area. I like the quieter area with ear plugs.

Since I have a cracking shield , someday I might try one of those Puig Racing screeens, do they come with the console area BLACKED OUT?

I'm 6'1" and have Helibars. I put my OEM windshield back on and am very pleased.

I am 5' 11" and have an MRA vario-touring screen (the one with the lip on top) and am pretty pleased with it overall. I did make one addition to it that improved it very subtley by adding stealth edging.

I have thought about trying to have a slightly wider and taller lip made for it though, if I can find someone to do it...just as an experiment. (you see, the lip is not flat. It's angled down at the outside edges.)

The MRA vario screen does look interesting but the price is a little hard to swallow. I think I'll give the ZG touring screen a try and see what happens.

The buffeting for me is worse if I wear my olympia mesh jacket. It flaps more and creates more turbuelence. When wearing a leather jacket or tighter fitting gear, the buffeting is dropped significantly.

While I am alot shorter than you at 5'7", on my 03 with genmar risers the Zero Gravity DB was worse than stock, I have since added a laminar lip to the stock screen and am happy with it. I wish we could get the large vario screen like they make for some BMWs.
