Seats/seat mods

I recently acquired an '06 and I'm looking for recommendations for reducing saddle sore for myself as well as my passenger. I am currently running the stock seat. I ran a Corbin on my SV650 in the past and was quite pleased with it but it was still very firm. Any suggestions on a better seat maker or modding the factory seat? I'm considering modding my seat and if you have done so on a bike, are there any types of foam you recommend?

I bought a gently used (maybe 800 miles on it) Sargent for my 6th gen, and let me tell ya, it's like sitting on a cloud. I wouldn't hesitate at all to suggest one to another rider.

does it still allow use of the factory seat cowl when riding solo?

The short answer is yes, but it does fit a little more snug. I love the Sargent.

I was just about to start a thread myself, more so about pillion comfort. I have a Corbin, with a backrest, that I use when riding 2 up. But after spending a few hours on the back, the GF was complaining of soreness. I've heard that the Sargeants are much better and will probably go that direction at some point. But for now, she was looking at the Airhawk cushions (I've heard nothing but good stuff about them) and ButtyBuddy. I never heard of the latter, but it looks...interesting. http://www.buttybuddy.com/index.asp Has anyone heard of, or possibly used the ButtyBuddy?

I did the Cabot trail last summer with 4 others. I have a OEM gel seat on my Katana so I was comfy . We stopped for tires in New Brunswick on the way home and 2 guys bought airhawk II's. One with a 99 GSXR and the other a newer CBR600RR. They Both loved them, and while pricey the fact that they can be transferred from bike to bike as you upgrade added a huge bonus over buying a specific model Gel seat.

I sent a spare saddle down to greatdaytoride.com. So far I like it, but I honestly haven't been on it enough yet to give a good review. It is better than stock for sure.

A BIG :+1: The Sargent is the best money I've spent on the bike!

As TWIST'DGRIP said, the stock cowl will fit on the sargent seat. The fitment around the grab handles is a little tight when the cowl is on, and it takes a bit of finesse to get the cowl ON the seat itself. With all that being said, I still think that it was a solid investment. My posterior thanks me every time I go for a ride :D

Unless your passenger rides on a very regular basis, I don't think anything short of a goldwing is going to satisfy them on rides longer than an hour. There's really no substitute for seat time.

A gel pad or Airhawk or beads all work to some extent but all have their opponents as well. A custom seat is a real crap shoot unless you can be there while it's being done.

Just bought a Sargent for my 5th Gen. from sportour.com. Good pricing and shipped the day I ordered. I have a Corbin on my '94 and bought it before I picked up the bike in 1994 - had one on my prior bike and did not want a new bike without one. Fantastic seat. However, in my opinion they have gotten too pricey since then. Sargent seats get a lot of positive comments, particularly in customer service if you have issues. It has always amazed me that you can drop $10k to $20k on a new bike and the seat is shite (even on VFR's!). I sometimes wonder whether the almost all stock seats are made so soft to make them feel comfy in the showroom. Any of the aftermarket seats feel a little on the firm side when you first sit on them, but boy, are they great after an hour or so!

The corbin I had on my SV seemed a lot firmer than my stock seat but I could go all day pretty comfortably after I broke it in. I've been in the motorcycle industry for the last 10 years and it always seemed to me that Honda's seats felt more like a brick than any other manufacturer's seat.

New guy here and have an new 08 inbound. I had an energy seat on my CBR1000 and it worked great, but looking forward to being back in the saddle of a VFR.
