As for the Gen5 -they are a dime a dozen these days. Tons of low-mile nice-looking bikes around. Keep the old bike for parts, get a new one. $3-4k and you get a whole new bike.

Sadly, that was yours truly. I was doing 50+ around a righthander on the Cherohala Skyway and a good sized deer teleported right in front of me. I saw a split second image of a deer's face looking at me 6 inches from my handlebars and then I was sitting on the guardrail talking to someone, with no memory of going down. A number of wonderful people stopped to sit with me while my brain rebooted and I was able to walk and talk after a little while. I was wearing full gear and took a pretty good lick - I got away with a large bruise on my hip and some very sore ribs. My helmet was toast. A week later I'm still too sore to sneeze or cough or laugh.
The viffer protected me well, but the front end damage is pretty bad. All the plastics are gone. Oil cooler is shaped like a vee and broken loose from the oil lines. Forks tubes are twisted about 20 degrees and wheel is wedged in one of the brake calipers because the axle is bent. Every single connector on the front harness is broken from being yanked loose as the front cowl disintegrated.
To top it off, my wife was 5 minutes behind in her Miata (we were going the "long way around" to meet at Deals Gap for a burger) and pulled up on the scene. She recognized the bike and rider and, admirably, kept her composure.

All in all it was actually a good day. I walked away from a pretty scary accident. And somebody picked up a free deer for dinner.

Glad you walked away from that one! I've ridden the Cherohala hundreds of times and never have seen a deer, plenty of hunting dogs during bear season though! :unsure:

Sorry to here a deer spoiled your ride,hope you get sorted out health and bike wise asp.we have lots od wild deer in the uk,in my area they are a small breed type but still cause damage ive seen the carcases by the side of the road.so robin hood didnt hunt all the kings deer! :rolleyes:

I don't like the idea of calling people out on crashes. If they want to self report that is fine.
It feels to me that the original poster is trying to cause embarrasment or harassment.
After the victim has self reported... let the flood gates open. But if they choose to keep incidents to themselves then hands off.

Considering the area these pics were taken in it also brings awareness to ride safe and within your and your bikes abilities..

Sorry for your crash practice sessions guys. There is no shame in a crack up when wildlife or road conditions sneak up on you. I do however have no sympathy for riders how remove their brain while riding. Especially when they replace it with ETOH. I worked a motor crash one night recently where a rider tried to make it home after sampling PBR all night at his social club. $20K worth of chrome, plastic, and custom paint in a culvert later....I had to just say "Man...if you don�t care about yourself...care about the machine.." He walked away without a scratch....as most drunks do.....Safe rides everyone...
