I currently have my bikes insured with Progressive and they make it clear that your gear is covered just like other accessories with $1000 built in coverage and the ability to add more. I'm quoting with AllState (who I used to be with a few years back) and the agent stated they have the same $1000 add-on coverage but he didn't know if that covered gear or only hard parts connected to the bike. It was the end of the day and he said he would check in the morning but I thought maybe we had an AllState agent or someone who's actually had gear damage while insured with AllState. I'm hoping the coverage includes gear as AllState is offering some good savings.

My wife is an Allstate agent, and all my bikes are insured with Progressive if that tells you anything.. I would have paid the extra $$ (several hundred per year), but she's the one who shopped it, and insisted.. go figure.

In this case AllState is considerably cheaper than Progressive but it isn't worth it if I stand to be out $1000+ in gear that they won't cover in an accident. Did your wife have you go with Progressive because it was cheaper, better coverage, other? Does she know if the motorcycle coverage includes gear?

She says the Allstate policy covers gear, but doesn't know the limit off the top of her head. It may also be a state to state difference too. Allstate in GA is quite a bit higher than Progressive. I have to say though that for auto, life and property they're UNBEATABLE, and I can recommend a great agent.
