Bog & idle issue?

I have an '84 700 Interceptor, starts perfectly runs (mostly) real good. 2 Problems are making me scratch my head:
1) The idle will be around 1400rpm cold and over the course of a ride will climb to 1800 and dip to 900RPM over the course of a 30 minute round town trip. Replced the rubber manifold boots and thought it may help but it didn't have any affect. Why won't it stay at one basic place?

2) Once the engine warms up, I need to keep the revs at about 3,000 RPM and ease the clutch to keep the bike from bogging badly. This occurs only from a dead stop, it accelerates very well from any gear so long as its not at a stop.

Only about 10,000 miles on bike. What should I look for or adjust?

Hi,
I would say you have an air/vacuum leak and or dirty/clogged jets. Vacuum leak would be the easiest to fix, otherwise a carb rebuild might be needed? :blush:

I don't remember if these use a diaphragm type carb or not, but you could have a cracked one if it does!

I am thinking a dirty idle circuit. (They have the smallest holes right by the butterfly and get dirty easily)

Try running some Seafoam (just add some to the tank as per label)
If that doesn't work, I would remove, inspect and clean the carbs,
