Picked me up an 87VFR700 last summer as my 1st street bike, she's been a great bike so far, but I have a couple complaints.
1. Front suspension seem a bit soft. I feel as if I've bottomed them out a couple times. Are they nitrogen-filled shocks only or can I pump them up with air? Also, where does one find a pressure gage that reads 0-10 psi accurately?
2. Wind noise. It has the stock smoked windscreen ( I think), and the wind is hitting me just below the visor. If I lift my head above the windstream into the unaffected air, it becomes much quieter.
I've debated cutting down the stock screen, but I'm thinking the turbulence will be too great at highway speeds (75-85mph) with no wind protection. I have a HJC helmet, nothing fancy, but she's comfortable and I'm saving for a good pair of protective riding pants, jeans make me feel unprotected. I can tuck behind my windscreen at speed. but the noise from the bike matches the roar from the wind, so no go on that one.
So what's the deal? I've looked up the main windscreen manufacturers and no one seems to make them for a bike as old as mine. I'm not that tall, 5'10", but I have a longer torso so I'd say it's equivalent to a 6 footer. I would like something that looks stylish, but not too expensive. I'm perfectly willing to drill and cut the screen, but I do not want to damage the stock plastics in any way.
Thanks fellas.
