Over the holiday I stopped in to visit the dealer where I used to work. It was the first chance I had to see the 1200 in person.
I had no intention of buying one (holding out for the supercharger for my '07), but the owner let me take the one on the showroom out for a ride, and they ended up offering me such a good deal that I couldn't pass it up.
Like most others, I felt it looked much better in person than in the mags (except for the muffler!), and I loved how it rode.
I will probably hold off on putting an exhaust on it until the Power Commander is available. By then there should be more options to choose from, although at this time the high-mount Akra is looking pretty good. In the meantime, if the chrome is just too blingy for me, I may end up powdercoating or painting the shield.
Otherwise, keeping my eyes peeled for a fender elim kit, solo cowl, and darker windscreen.
My wife is still working out of town for another month, making me effectively a single dad with a two-year old, so I won't get to ride it a whole lot for a while. We'll have to take turns sitting on it and making "vroom" noises together.
Hopefully more to come in a few weeks!
Congrats!!! Another 6th gen-er bites the dust and gets a newer model!!! Pics?? Imean of you and the 2 year old making vrooom noises on it in the garage!! Now, with a brand new bike in the garage, you'll be your son's hero for sure.

Your post brings up a good point...How long 'til there are plenty of mods available for this new bike? I bet common mods like windscreens, exhausts, etc. come out a lot faster for Big 4 sportbikes than they will for the VFR. For people who love farkles it could be a factor when deciding if and when to buy a brand new bike.

Yep, but I was sad to see the 6th gen go. I really liked it and feel more like I traded sideways to the VFR's big brother, than traded up to a "better" bike.
The 800 was no slouch, but my prior bikes were all larger, so I was glad to get back to the bigger power I was used to.
And yes, I will post a pic of my little one on the bike in the next few days :)

I was surprised how it worked out. This was not a demo bike... The owner didn't even allow the salesmen to ride it. He was the only one who rode it before it was put on the floor.
I guess he was either really glad to see me, or was sure I'd buy it! He got involved in the deal also and trumped the sales manager to take good care of me.

Taylormade was said to be making an exhaust for the 1200, maybe email them and see what they say.
One of the members here photoshopped a CBR1000 exhaust onto a 1200, and got ahold of Taylormade, and they said it looked very interesting, and they would be looking into making something for the 1200.
I'm glad for you. I wouldn't do anything but ride that thing as far as mods go. Definately is not lacking power and more options will be available over time for the exhaust.

Yeah, I agree that no mods are NEEDED, but part of the fun is personalizing it!
I wonder if Tomahawk is still around making those brightly colored tires...
Congrats! I almost stopped in Hollister to check out a Silver DCT on my way to Laguna today. I think I could get used to semi-auto. I'm sure the temptation would be great! Luckily I just Rode...

No, It's the manual tranny. I should have thought that I might impress the DCT by the title of the thread... oops.
The DCT is cool I'm sure, but I enjoy the shifting. If Honda had left the shift lever in place to operate the DCT instead of handlebar buttons, I might have gone for that. Small difference I know, but would still feel more like a traditional setup.

Took the bike for it's first real ride today, other than my test ride. Had to wait a few days due to a license plate fiasco.
I love the power! Also very comfy, I don't see an aftermarket seat ever going on this one. It is definately too quiet though. I don't like my pipes crazy loud, but it needs a little more volume. I don't think it will ever sound as good as the 800 though. I'm sure it's a combo of the new engine layout and having a single intead of dual exhaust.
One thing that did seem weird to me was the shift lever... it felt soft, or spongy when I pressed down on it, as if the lever itself was slightly flexible. Thicker rubber on the end of the lever maybe?
I've had several bikes over the last few years (still regret selling the RC51 - don't know what I was thinking), but I expect this will be a long term relationship.

Try this mod. Easy to do and sounds a lot better than stock at low rpm.
I've read about the flapper mod... If the PCV isn't available soon I will go ahead with that. There's a rumor that it will be out at the end of this week though. If that's the case, I'm going to order one of those with a new exhaust, so that will take care of it as well.
On another note, has anyone else that switched from a 6th gen noticed that the wind noise coming off the screen is a lot louder? Maybe it just seemed that way since I wasn't hearing my old Staintunes anymore.
