Clip-Ons!

Has anyone ever put a set of lower clip-ons on their VFR's? Found a nice fair-priced set, and Im considering installing them below the triple clamps. Anyone try this to make sure tank clearance is ok? Im not worried about the stance or leaning I dont do weekend trips, just the local twisties and to and from work. Any input is greatly appreciated.

what size are the fork tubes?

I have a cheap set of woodcrafts used i can let go and or new billet ones

37mm. That would be awesome. Ive looked at the woodcrafts, but found 6061 Billets, no brand name. What bike were you gonna put em on?

my used woodcrafts are 50mm, sorry

i sell billet clips myslef now with carbon tubes and i can get them done in 37mm but they will not be cheap

Yeah I found this set of "StuntTex"'s for around 80 bucks, I dont think I can beat that deal. Thanks though. Just curious, how much would the machined with Carbon cost?

Sort of... When I first put on my YZF-600R front end, I used the Yamaha clip-ons. They are about 1+" (correction 3+") lower than the stock VFR.

After 30 minutes of riding, my shoulders were hurting. I purchased some 92 VFR clip-ons and the shoulder problem is fixed.
Are you sure you want to have lower clip-ons?

I'm gonna say I'm 90% sure. I don't do very long rides, and I'm 6' 1". The current stance just feels too Sport Touring to me, plus lower clip-on's will certainly help me obtain the Street Fighter look I'm going for. Franko: The 92' clip-on's, do they have any rise to them? Also, what type of riding do you do primarily? (Hard Riding, Touring, Long Rides Short rides?) The "Stuntex" ones I'm looking at are 0 rise, straight-bars. Ultimately, I believe Ill get more comfort from these clip-on's than the 3" stock rises that are on there. I'm always willing to listen to those who have already done it and have experience with it though. Thanks..

Here is the 98 YZF 600R clip on (lower) and 86 VFR clip on (upper)
The YZF clipon is just over 3" lower than stock.

If I remember correctly, the 92 VFR clipons are 2" higher than the YZF clipons.

Most of my riding is putting around. If you have young bones (mine are 40+) the lower clipons may suit you just fine.

looking at getting my first bike ( a vf500f) this weekend, looking into mods and such now. i like the look of the lower clip ons. where might i source a decent set. and i dont mean to thread jack but can someone point me in the direction of some useful info for a newbie to the entire scene? ive wanted a vf500 since i was 2, playing on the old mans lol. any help.direction much appreciated! thanks!

I dunno about clipons under the triple clamp cause that's pretty low. I stayed on top of the clamps with VTR1000 (Same as CBRF4s) clipons and they made a big enough difference but without being too low. Had them on for over five years now and still very happy with them The big unexpected bonus was, the VTR clipons and end weights cancelled out the high frequency vibration that used to put my throttle hand to sleep on long rides :fing02:
Couldn't go any lower than my present setup anyway, because anything lower would hit the tank and faring at full lock.

I went to 4th gen clips on my 5th, they are about a bar diameter lower. I like them quite a bit. It makes the ergos closer to my old 4th gen. I looked at using the VTR bars but they were really not that much lower than the 4th bars. - So the VTR bars are just sitting in my parts box.

Surely you mean CBR600F3 bars, not F4? The F4 bars are 43mm(like F4i/6th gen), while the CBR600F3 bars are the correct 41mm size, like the 3rd/4th gen.

I put clip-ons on mines..but than i have the F2 front end on it...and putting them under the upper triple didnt work out to well..didnt feel right. i put them on top of triple and was cool.. gave it a sportier feel...

Yeah I definitely decided against going under the triple, and I'm not sure about going on top either I inspected the tank clearance and it is TIGHT as it is without lower bars. I wanted to see if anyone has tried it on a Gen 2. I'm also not sure how the degree angle of the bars compares to the stockers, if the stocks are also 7 degrees like the aftermarket ones I want to get then its most likely a no go, seeing the current clearance only gives me a half inch. Hmm...

How does the height of the F2 forks above triple compare to the stock height? Are your current F2 clips stock or aftermarket? From what I see and remember right now when im bump stopped I have a half inch of clearance with the tank bulging outward as you go lower..

F3/F4..Tomato/potato..........I don't remember exactly anymore. whatever it is, it's the same as the ones used on the VTR1000.

I would love Higher clip-ons for my '86.

Lower would hurt my shoulders too much after awhile.
