89 VFR RC-24 NOT FOR SALE

I've had an 89 VFR RC-24 for it's full 70k KM life. It's been sitting mostly in my garage for the past 2 years (very occasional rides)

My garage just told me that with the work to be done on it, I am better off putting it up for sale for parts for about 800 (I'm in France).

I just don't have the heart to do that, so I'll start looking around for parts & try to rebuild it (I'm only a half-assed, "Sunday Mechanic" who actually works in IT).

Any suggestions as to how to attack this project are Highly valuable!

First thing that I need (& cant find) is a file somewhere on the net called "honda vfr 750 f rc24 89 parts catalog.full.rar [HIGH SPEED DOWNLOAD]". can anyone help with that?

Things I have to fix:
1) The clutch is getting tired (slips when really pushing it). I know there are about 11 disks that have have to be replaced, but need the parts catalogue to be sure of what to get.
2) Like an idiot, I wanted to leave the bike running for a bit, other day, by letting the bike run (with starter/choke full ON) in the Garage. I forgot about it & found it 15 minutes later running VERY high RPM's & with white Vapor filling the garage. I've apparently boiled out all of the coolant & probably destroyed the thermostat & possibly the pump, as when I ride it now, the temperature shoots right up into the RED forcing me to stop & cool off.

Maybe I SHOULD sell it for parts?

Help!

Welcome to the board!

I have all the parts you need, I am selling my 1986 VFR700F (RC24) in pieces. I have a used clutch and a new clutch pack, also thermostat/hoses/radiator/etc. Although you should just top up your coolant and try it out - it's probably fine. It is a Honda after all!

Sebspeed:

I have not been on this forum in months and months (long story). I too own an '89 VFR750FK (RC24). I'm in the U.S., where it is considered a "Gray Market" bike. As you probably know, the '88 FJ and '89 FK were not exported to the U.S.

First of all, the scariest thing you have described is letting the bike run at high RPM, unattended. Gawd knows what happened there. It is possible that you toasted the cylinders, I suppose. Not good, that is for sure.

About two years ago, I installed a Barnett Clutch kit (clutch plates, friction plates, and springs). It was a fairly un-demanding job ... you just gotta "stay on your toes," and reassemble everything correctly. It works great, by the way. I cannot recall the clutch kit part number. However, if I go through a bunch of my "archives," I'll be able to locate it. Also, David Silver Spares in the UK has this one: 9 http://www.davidsilv...989/part_80774/ ) I do not know anything about this particular kit. However, David Silver Spares seems to be a reliable source of parts.

Also, I have a complete printout of the parts list, and also a shop manual. I do not have either in digital media. I have printouts, only. So, if all else failed, I could photocopy them, and get them to you, which would be very time-consuming and costly. I'm willing to do it, but this scenario is not my first choice.

This is a very good German website ( http://www.zsf.de/ ), but you must have a frame number in order to access the on-line parts fiche. It is good, because it gives you a cross-reference as CMSNL used to do (but they removed that cross-reference feature). I am simply assuming that you know about www.cmsnl.com ... yes?

Here is a French site: http://www.bike-part...ches-index.html

All this is moot, if you destroyed the motor. Actually, a motor shows up on eBay from time to time, no kidding. I've seen em many times. You just gotta be vigilant.

Let me know if / how I can help.

Hello Carat,

I understand getting very attached to two wheeled beauties as I had very much been after I finished this project of mine last year:

1985 Vitus Plus Carbone 7 - Also not for sale!!

It was a lot of time hard work and expense getting this Classic French beauty from the brink of ruin after 25 years on the road but the final product was my ultimate reward. Now I seem to be forever attached to it. i would assume that the same will be for you if you restore your 89 RC24. but we will understand......
