Since it is shaft drive, I'm thinking the only need for the center stand would be rear tire changes. So why carry the weight along all the time?

How about this?

Looks like the side stand must be down, so no going through the gears on the stand I guess...

Without a centerstand, what if you need to patch the tire on the side of the road and need to take the load off the tire before you air it up?

What if you have an R1? Or a Gixxer 750? Or an RC51? Or a ZX-7R? Or Harley? Or a CBR? Or an Aprilia?
I've never actually had to do that...

The center stand is also necessary for front tire changes as well. That contraption is fine but a center stand does the same thing, no matter where you are, and it's weight is irrelevant.

I spoke with Pitbull today. They are making a stand for about $139 that is now available. I tried to buy it through the Honda dealer since it is a Honda tool, but my dealer sent me to Pitbull. No shipping charge if you buy it from them at the GP races in Laguna.

Some thoughts. That paddock stand is brilliant. Creates a fulcrum for the front end work too. Easy tire changes.

Patching a tire? I keep a plug kit and can of spray in tire sealant to inflate with. Good enough to get me to a gas station or home.

I'm ambivilent about taking the centerstand off. My bike sees the track once in a while and I have a rear stand for it. Almost took it off last trackday and may if a new track bike is not in my future. the center stands weight is so low and central I doubt it affects handling. If your suspension is set up correctly and you don't ride like freaking Ben Spies then clearance shouldn't be an issue either. I think there's a sport in itself with sportbikes to see how much spare weight you can remove from it. I say go for it. You can always put it back on if you are wrong.
